+1 for DF even though I already beat Hydra long ago. It was a pain getting a group.
But yeah, everytime someone says something is easy, I usually prepare for a wipe. Funny how that works.
I agree with bringing the "A Relic Reborn" Chimera and Hydra fights to the Duty Finder. Once the influx of new players begins to wane, people are going to have an even more difficult time getting groups for this quest.
As far as difficulty, I noticed that the White Breath would hit us tanks even when we were well out of its cone. This is one of the things that caused us issue last night when folks in my group did it, we kept getting hit with White Breath while literally flanking the boss. I'm assuming the same can be said for how the cleave is working, if you're getting hit with it while out of its range.
How do you figure you'll manage to beat Titan or even Garuda if you can't beat Hydra? You probably have every right to be convinced >_>
It may seem like a pretty simple fight, but that's fairly deceptive. The strategy is indeed simple, but it takes some coordination to pull off. A few things to note, from the perspective of a DPS class:
- This is pretty obvious, but everyone should stay out of the middle. Having fire and ice patches in the middle is death, since you need to run to the middle when he fears.
- Have your DPS stick together. Because you can't cut through the middle, the worst situation is to have the wyvern adds be taken by the DPS on one side, forcing the DPS on the other side to run full-length around the room to reach it. You'll be very hard pressed to do enough damage to kill it fast enough in such a circumstance.
- It's not enough to run to the middle when you see him casting. Move before that when you see him moving towards the middle, and pop sprint.
- Even if a wyvern add is up, moving to the middle ASAP is always the priority. You can continue to DPS the add while you're stacked in the center.
Be a leader and kick the people who are doing it wrong for god sakes.
You should expect people can play the game they're playing. That's ridiculous. 40 runs and you can't win? All you do is go to the center when he uses fear. Make sure to tank him not in the center so everyone can see.
My goodness, you're probably being too nice to people.
And to the guy saying "forcing people to play correctly"..when you play Mario, do you just decide you don't need to jump anymore? Like what is it about an MMO that makes you think it's not a video game?

Hmmmm. Time sink. Interdependency. Forcing players to interact and cooperate with one another so as to spend more time, gil, and resources into the game for the satisfaction of tackling content being thrown at you. Yeah, sounds about right. Time sinks are in MMOs for many reasons, but one of them is to enforce interdependency of the parts of the game, including that between players. The reward for this is the content.
To be honest, I don't think the difficulty for Chimera or Hydra need to be changed in any way, but I don't really see why they aren't on DF. They're definitely easier than Garuda and Titan, and those fights are in DF.
The difficulty hasn't been changed. The hardcore raiders (most of whom are good players) who blew through this content earlier in the month are doing Bahamut's Coil. What we're left is are a bunch of slowpokes (me included) of questionable quality. You know, people who swim in pools of fire or like to hug the chimera when it is cleaving.
This is why the fight seems harder now. It's actually very simple, but too many people tunnel vision and ignore the bad stuff (or the wyvern) and cause wipes.
