I'm a single MMO'er,

I enjoy long night of leveling along the beach, I commit to one MMO at a time and I am quite dependable once I commit. I've had some long relationships in the past but nothing has really come along that grabbed my attention since I drifted apart from my last MMO.

I feel I'm ready to commit again. I know we have already had a relationship and you weren't exactly what I expected when we got together but I still saw the potential for a great relationship. Almost 3 years have past since then and you say you have grown up a bit, that you have changed. Well, I may be foolish for thinking this but maybe, just maybe, things will be different this time.

We have had a few dates here and there during that time so I'm beginning to see the MMO you are going to become. You're starting to look pretty darn cute! Sure you aren't perfect, that's what makes you so much fun! I know right now you are still in rehab so I'm willing to wait till the end of August when you graduate from the program, then we can start going together on a more regular basis. I want to help you grow and I hope you can be the best MMO that you can be.

Getting called a "White Knight" again, this time for posting Dev comments. Thought I would dig this up from my older posts. Enjoy!

Just wanted to add this to the OP.

Personally, I think the term "White Knight" is mostly used to dismiss someone's positive argument about a topic. Its a way to ignore any good points someone might make about something that they enjoy.

Alternately, I think the term "Troll" is used in the same manner. Its a way to dismiss someones distaste for something. When people call another a troll, there are times where they make good points but then they are dismissed as a troll so as not to be taken seriously. Rokien comes to mind. As much as I disliked the way he phrased things he did have some valid points on occasion.

Granted there are times where either label does apply, some people like to get a rise out of others so they knowingly say something that will "stir the pot" (SSM comes to mind). And there are times where people will defend something to the death because they are either emotionally invested in the topic or they see things through a distorted lens with blinders on, ignoring any and all evidence to the contrary.

Either way, There is more to a person than what can be gleaned from a single post. While I may seem the white knight in some aspects, I am not without my share of complaints. There are things I would like to see changed and things I'm content with. Above all, I believe its not what you are saying but how you say it. The one thing I cannot stand are people being unnecessarily cruel, rude, abrasive, or refuse to hold a dialogue in which ideas are shared and listened to. If all you are going to do is defend your position (positive or negative) even in the face of good evidence to the contrary or just outright ignore it, then what is the point of even saying anything in the first place.

I love your post, and I kinda want to add something to it. I'm hoping my comments don't destroy/minimize what you're trying to say, but instead add dimension.

I don't think I've personally been called a white knight, but, I expect that if I posted more of what I really thought, that I would be.

Sure, White Knights do exist, and yeah, they can be irritating and overbearing.

However, I'm learning that there is a difference between a white knight and someone who is reasonable and understands human limitations, hardware limitations and software limitations.

I prefer to think of myself as the latter. A reasonable, grown adult, with enough knowledge of how big companies work and how networks operate, how software can be written, along with how datacenters are set up.

SE did a massive amount of work relaunching this game as quickly and thoroughly as they did.
They did a worldwide launch on the same date, including digital downloads of the game.
They added a second datacenter location to please people who misunderstand ping.
They put out the Before Meteor soundtrack, without DRM ^^
They then did another massive amount of work adding more worlds and duty finder servers shortly after launch.
They gave us a good start to the endgame, and even designed a sort of end game for crafters.
Yoshi has already completed the storyline for the next EXPANSION and handed it to the dev team.
They're working on patches that are scheduled to release every three months.
They're still listening and responding to player feedback on these forums.
They've redesigned the Lodestone, come out with a phone app, with an android version coming out soon.
They've acknowledged most of the bigger bugs/issues with the game and told us that they're working on them (RMT, bots, this perceived 'lag' on AoE moves, etc.)

And people still aren't happy. People are still asking for more. People want more details about what exactly they are doing.

When I look at that list above, things that I just thought of off the top of my head without researching, I ask you all: What haven't they done? Pleased everyone? Well of course they haven't, it's not something anyone can do.

The fact that a large corporation is even doing so much as what is listed above is actually, rather extraordinary, considering most really are just happy to take your cash and let you go screw yourself.

It's not easy, cheap or simple to add a second datacenter. Nor is it easy, cheap or simple to 'add a few lines of code' to something as massive as an MMORPG. Nor is it easy, cheap or simple to combat spam of any kind. If it was, you wouldn't have a spam filter in your inbox that doesn't even always work.

So, yeah, I'm probably a white knight, but I prefer to think of myself as someone who lives in the real world and understands that there are limitations to everything.

It's not exactly healthy to grow an obsession with a company (or anyone) so strong that you accept everything they do. Open and clear communication between a company and its customers is far more important than avid fanaticism.

If you're not doing that, but still being called a white knight, you've been labeled incorrectly.

Thank you. I try, I try so hard to remain reasonable and coherent. I know I've crossed the line a few times and meandered into the 'hateful' territory. That's when I try to find a thread like this where I can exert control and go back to being reasonable
