Indeed it does. But it was also a great choice to be honest.

If they had just used the traditional job names from the outset for this new class system everyone would have been confused about "Well why is there a Red Mage, and a Dark Knight with no melee weapon" as Conj and Thaum seemed to fit those descriptions at first. If you think of the armoury system outside of traditional FF jobs none of the classes match any of the jobs from past FFs. Instead you have to mix and match atleast 2 classes in XIV to make a traditional FF Job. I have a feeling they always intended to have the Final Fantasy Job names play a part in character customization but they didnt get it finalized before they were forced to release so the system never came to pass. Instead Yoshi-P had to throw one together and hopefully its adequate to create a sense of accomplishment, force role reinforcement, and nostalgia. Even if its illusionary. All without removing the uniqueness of the Armoury System.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I 'd rather not think of the Armory as "incomplete", so much as a cog within a much bigger machine (in this case, the machine being character development).

A few other tidbits I'd like to comment on...

Dual-Wield: Making it is universally obtainable skill had a tendency to be a bad idea, and to be quite honest, the "Twin Sword" method (a med ATK 2H Weapon that strikes twice) tends to lend itself much better in the long-term lifespan of an MMORPG. While players do enjoy the freedom of using 2 unrelated weapons, the effects are less than optimal on the game's actual play... So yeah... I'm more of a fan of systems which only have 1-H Weapon and Shield/No Shield or 2-H Weapon, for good reason though.

As far as Samurai-type jobs go, the Parivir might be kind of interesting (a more accurate, glassy marauder), but this would involve using the same weapons as the Gladiator (assuming katanas would count as swords), so it would require an actual job, as opposed to a weapon class. Heck, Red Lotus is already a great place to start for this.

I don't think Katana's should count as swords. Simply because the skills used for them are so different. I'd rather they be seperated into "Oriental Weapons" which would allow for things like Sais's and Kama's as well to show up.

I disagree in the respect that the given weapon classes are broad enough to cover oriental weapon types...

-Sais are TwinSwords with DEF boosts, Glad
-Kamas are Scythes, axes essentially, more accurate Marauder weapons perhaps?
-Tonfas... Almost synonymous with Fist weapons

As for Katanas, they are longer swords (2H probably?), and a Parivir job could easily acclimate draw slashes or what have you. But why should Katanas be limited to oriental jobs? :P Katana swordsmanship is very similar to that of Western blades. Though as far as oriental variations go, I'd like to see Gladiators get oversized Chinese blades. Nevertheless, oriental weapons are very akin to the weapon classes available, though slight mechanical changes can give them flavorful differences aye?

seigan is basically in the evasion or parry boosting skills, and corresponding weaponskills.
comrade in arms is store tp

samurai basically got taken by lancer, as it was anyhow, the magic swordsman could be interesting, but you can make a spear sam out of whats in game already pretty easily.
    ninja....
well we got various dots, and debuffs on thaum
lancer has third eye, which is basically utsusemi, but lets throw archers one in there so you get two.
what else ninja got... oh dual weild, which was rumored to be fencer in the dats, but who knows if that will ever occur.
I think featherfoot is more like utsuemi.

I wouldn't want them to implement Utsusemi anyway.

Agreed, Utsu was awful for balance. There are better ways of dealing with soloing content and survivability than slapping straight up damage negation on everyone.

mannn i get hit all the time with featherfoot,
the lancer skill, that lets you dodge any close attack, that is utsu, but its only 1 shadow per minute so it wont become a way of life.

of course a man desiring the ninja way of life could probably take the lancer one, and the archer one for ranged attacks, and just run away for the archer one so he negates a ranged attack. but prolly seems like too much work for too little reward.

    Didn't read, lol.

Whatever happens, I just hope Samurai are completely different from FFXI if they even get introduced. No meditate. No WS spam. Give me something more FF tactics style. (Yes I loved SAM in XI but shit has to change).
