Most Final Fantasy Games do not simplify it like that. Most times Katanas and Great Katanas are considered Magical Swords and are not usable by just a normal Squire, Soldier, or Warrior. You have to earn the "Wield Katana" skill from ninja or Samurai to use them.I disagree in the respect that the given weapon classes are broad enough to cover oriental weapon types...
-Sais are TwinSwords with DEF boosts, Glad
-Kamas are Scythes, axes essentially, more accurate Marauder weapons perhaps?
-Tonfas... Almost synonymous with Fist weapons
As for Katanas, they are longer swords (2H probably?), and a Parivir job could easily acclimate draw slashes or what have you. But why should Katanas be limited to oriental jobs? :P Katana swordsmanship is very similar to that of Western blades. Though as far as oriental variations go, I'd like to see Gladiators get oversized Chinese blades. Nevertheless, oriental weapons are very akin to the weapon classes available, though slight mechanical changes can give them flavorful differences aye?
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
