I've just started being asked to do Melds for people as a level 47 WVR. I'm totally in the dark as to what I should charge/expect the tip to be.
If anyone could point me to a thread/guide on what is fair for both parties, I'd really appreciate it.

I usually don't ask for money and let the customers decide.
More often than not they give a satisfying amount, and it helps building relations.
I mean, melding is free, so even if you don't charge anything you don't lose anything.
Actually you lose whatever amount they would have paid you.
They usually end up paying me, sometimes a thousand gil, sometimes more. Had a guy pay me 15k for a bunch of meld attempts.
If they see you're not after their money, and that you're just nice to them there's a big chance they'll come back to you later if they need more melds.
Charging money might be better on the short term, but leaving payment to the customer to decide encourage long-lasting relationships.
I don't ever charge anyone for it because all I have to do is push a button. I've had a few people tip, but I don't actually care. Any reasonable amount to charge is barely worth anything.
Also, similar to what the person above said... thanks to the cross-server duty finder, the opportunities to meet and talk with people are few and far between. I'd rather make my first impression the best I can by not asking for a pittance of gil.
Melding isn't free. It takes many hours to get your gathering/craft up to 50 to be in the position to do those melds. People need to realize this.
Time is worth compensation.

But that's a choice the individual made for themself. They like the class and leveled it up. Thats like a tank charging people to tank cause he put time in to level that class, WHM might as well charge too, cause they put hours n hour into level that class too right??? LOL
Some people just like to craft, and if they feel like helping others , there's nothing wrong with that. I like the way they said they do exchanges .
Guess SE didn't know that one of the Ms in MMO, stands for "MASSIVE".
You're right crafting is a choice we make, so we don't end up being broke in the end-game. Just because we took the conscious effort to be successful before racing to end-game like the world is gonna end tomorrow, doesn't mean we don't deserve to be compensated for it...But that's a choice the individual made for themself. And your tank/ WHM comparison isn't even close to the situation, now you're just reaching for an excuse. Where do you kids come up with your logic these days? It's really ridiculous, these excuses you come up with. All I see is me, me, me from you guys...

You should charge how much it costs you to actually do it.
