how did Cid lose his memories? (spoiler?)

this has been bugging me for a while, but how exactly did Cid lose his memories? the impact of dalamud? or was his involvement with the adventurer so intricate that, in the process of having the adventurers' memories erased, Cid's mind was messed up as a result?

Most likely, he was experiencing dissociative fugue as a result of trauma.

Cid's father, Midas nan Garlond, was the Imperial Minister of Industry, a famous engineer in charge of advancing Garlemald's technology. When House Darnus resurrected the use of Allag magitek, substituting magickal power with ceruleum fuel as a drive mechanism, this became the primary focus of Imperial engineers. Cid, like his father, was a prodigy - but when his father became enthralled with the Meteor project, the two became quite distant. Cid spent a lot of time in the capital, where Gaius van Baelsar took over some of the parental responsibilities Midas was neglecting - guiding and honing his abilities and ideology towards Imperial interest. Cid, in turn, developed better, more efficient killing machines for the Empire until he realized that they would use them ruthlessly through any means that led to their desired end. The Meteor project led to his father's death and annihilated an entire city, leading Cid to snap out of it, so to speak, and defect to Eorzea, partly in hopes of redeeming himself and preparing them to defend against the machines he himself created.

The Battle of Cartenau, where the VIIth Legion met the Alliance and Dalamud fell, is the point where it all culminated for him and it seems he couldn't handle the trauma. It's possible that he was affected by the same selective memory-wipe that happened to everyone else in terms of the Warriors of Light, but to a more extreme degree, but for now I think it was just fugue.

well I would go with fugue since he recovered his memories through the items rather then through the call of crystal, but I still dont understand who was the one responsible for the fog in first place? it cant be Lehbara since you met him in the void/crystal and foght him off there but I hope we find that out soon.

I think they're referring to the mental fog keeping everyone from remembering the names and faces of the Warriors of Light.

there was also the mega flare blast that Bahamut did it could have knocked him out and caused a head injury. If I remember correctly the priest did say he was hurt and had no memory... I'll rewatch that cutscene though

they called it fog, but the differnt dialogue you get if you get because you went on to beat White Raven one of the Empire's Generals before the end of V1.23 I think, because of which you are counted as warrior of light, if you didnt beat him then you are just counted as Meteor survivor and if you made your character after relaunch then you are counted as aspiring Hero.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the final flight of the Enterprise. Cid loves his airship so I doubt he would voluntarily leave it damaged at the Stone Vigil prior to losing his memory. As far as theory-crafting, mayhaps he fell off something during Carteneau 5 years ago and, as Rannie mentioned (if the part about the injury is true), got a head injury? If not having been careened off course by the destruction inflicted by either Bahamut or the falling fragments of his prison, maybe the "fog" that got everyone took effect while he was piloting the Enterprise causing him to lose control of it lol.

Ok so I did rewatch the cut scene it doesn't exactly say that he was injured how ever it did say the battle of cartneau did take it's toll on his mind. (i'm guessing from that it was an injury and could be from the fog as well)
