[Fishing] Something I don't understand

For all you fishermen out there... you know when you're fishing, and you get a bite and your rod makes a different sound?
For me, 100% of the times the fish gets away (sometimes with my lure).

Does anyone know what that is? Do i do something wrong? What's that?

It's probably a fish that's too high of a level for you to catch and you need more Gathering skill.

Update: It happened in places where I had all the fishes in my log already.

So, I think it's not gathering level.

I have seen 4, maybe 5 different strike patterns. The one where the rod bows hard, the tip quivers, and the reel just screams is impossible for me to land too.

But I'm almost always fishing to level and currently in the desert I can land L 50 fish at 35 while wearing a few dated pieces to spiritbond. So I got gathering stat armor for those slots and tried again. Still can't reel those in.... I don't think its gathering stat either, it has to be something though.

I still think it's gathering. There was a hole that I was fishing in that I did not lose any fish. I removed some of my gear, significantly lowering my gathering. Then I started losing fish around 20% of the time. If I had to guess, I would say that gathering gives you a percentage to catch fish. For example, maybe you have a 50% chance of catching a level 40 fish if you have 150 gathering, but 100% if you have 200+. So, even though you've caught that fish before, that doesn't mean you will catch it 100% of the time.
