    Map / Zone relationships

    Hi!

With regards to the map, currently as it stands, each zone (to me at least) is a fragmented zone with no relationship to the other except for naming conventions.
The way the map is being presented now leaves me always confused, and needing to open up the map to check several times where each zone is, in relation to another.

    Solution:

Please give the OPTION to show on the map, the closest *connected* neighbouring zones to the zone we are currently in. As in, the neighbouring zone's map actually displays but it should be be grayed/dimmed out. I am hoping that this will aid in immersion, and gives us a better grasp of where each zone is, in relation to the other. As well as show us the vastness of Eorzea.. which right now, is just a bunch of fragmented zones.

    Thanks.

I was hoping someone would make a post like this. I feel like each zone is it's own island.

Southern Thanalan is not simply South of Central Thanalan... it's actually South of Eastern Thanalan... So if I want to run from Norther Thanalan to Southern when I get to Central I have to guess whether to go east or west to get south ><

I realize it wouldn't be a "guess" if I remembered, or went to the map and looked at each zone one by one, but remembering the geography of a game world (let alone the real world) isn't a strength of mine, and browseing maps isn't terribly fun.

I have no idea at all where the three major cities are in relation to one another (but I know one of the shrouds meets one of the thanalans). I'd love another world map that actually shows the zones.

This really needs to be changed. I've gotten used to the other quirks of this game, but the map is inexcusable. Just copy any number of other games and then we'll all be happy.

One map. zoom in and out. is that so hard?

Well like most things in this game that make you scratch your head, I think this one can also be attributed to them supporting playstation/gamepad.

But still, I'm sure there are other playstation games (probably FPS) that have even better map controls than this. It must be possible. The map is so clunky right now and I agree it makes no geographical sense, so I am ALWAYS having to click through it to find where I'm supposed to go.

I'm not seeing an issue with the map. Some of the areas are quite large and having one continuous map would be cumbersome. If you want to see what is in the connected area, move your cursor to the zone border label and left click or tap R1/RB on your controller and it will change to the connected zone automatically. Maybe I'm missing something?

Maybe, but you think they would try to make it simple and more efficient BECAUSE of gamepad use. FarCry 3 comes to mind, it had a huge map but you could zoom in and out of it, right down to looking for the hidden treasure icons behind waterfalls and stuff like that.

even if Eorzea is so big that it can't fit on one map, at least give us 3-4 different BIG maps instead of 32 tiny maps. it's just ridiculous.

Using a cursor on PS3 is AWFUL, anything you use a cursor for needs a different option. There IS a world map, it's just completely useless.
