I too find the combat too simplistic. It became such a drag that I no longer felt like playing and eventually cancelled my sub. There's still a lot of stuff left for me to do, but I can't enjoy it with the way the game is in its current state.

All combat just feels too similar. Dodge the red and cycle through your rotation. No amount of positioning, interacting with objects, or even difficulty can make it more exciting when the core is nothing but a bore. There's just not enough tactical elements, in my opinion.

The quests. The trials. The dungeons. To me, they're all just a constant repetition of the same thing. Which demolishes any sense of immersion this game should have. I stick around, though. In hopes that SE improves it well enough to the point where I'd be dying to play it again.

The only thing you can do is quit. They will not get the message if we stay and complain.

Yep! you got it! wow!! Incoming welfare epics (nm already have those) incoming dailies! (ack, those are here too)

Im not really sure what makes wow bad that FFXIV hasnt already taken/used. AH system, duty finder, instancing, instant travel, no death penalty... its exactly what the wow kids wanted. An updated prettier wow 2.

Any purists out there, does the name Brad McQuaid mean anything to you? Good, now head over to kick starter and check out Pantheon. Its what Vanguard would have been had kickstarter been around :P McQuaids new game directed directly at us as per his directive to the supporters.
Vanguard would have been what it should have been, if McQuaid didn't have a drug and alcohol problem and blow all his money on pills and cars... It had nothing to do with funding... They would have given him the money he needed if he actually had been working on a product at the time instead of screwing around. He checked into rehab within days of Vanguards launch and failure. He never even showed up once at the office for the entire last year of Vanguards development according to former Sigil employees. He was too busy getting blitzed and squandering the companies money. I can't believe people are actually giving him money again for his new venture.

I mean, I love this game a lot so when I have to, I don't mind teaching someone about certain mechanics so they can better themselves. Near end game, it becomes more of a team oriented thing and learning to work together after all and by no means easy.

Everyone has to go through the learning curve, some just learn faster than others.
Would be nice if teamwork involved more than 8 ppl though.

Game is way too easy in my opinion.
there's a difference between "not knowing how to play" and just simply getting bested by the content.

well, sure, let's make the 1-50 gradually a pain and long to finish... let's make the first dungeon 50 really hard.
well for me, as legacy and old player of mmorph (did begin with Anarchy online) nothing was really hard. but i have a friend with who i play, she had to learn everything from step one... if you ask her if the combat is slow... she will say no! if you ask her if the game is easy at high level... she will say no.

it's good to see the game with your eyes, but don't forget that the world don't revolve around you. the game was made for allows new player to catch with legacy, they have gradually add new mechanic, new way to fight with the 2.1 and surely will continue with the 2.2... indeed for veteran it will surelly look easy. but well, new player don't have your huge experience of this sort of game and will find this really really hard.

Chess has a set of rules. If you are playing against a friend who never plays, the game is 'easy'. If you are playing against a grand master, the game is 'hard'. But in reality, the rules are the same, the strategy and moves are still there. Just each person/opponent can make better use of these rules.

A 'dumbed' down version of Chess would be chess on a 6x6 board with two types of pieces each (bishops and rooks). It would be 'easy' against your friend, and 'hard' against a master of this dumbed down version, but still.. It would be a dumbed down version of Chess.

This is FFXIV 2.0. They took what they had in FFXI & FFXIV 1.0, and 'dumbed' it down.. a lot. All concepts of class/skill pick'n'mix is gone (no more fun with RDM/NIN, or cross-class skills).

All concepts of weapon choice are gone (Do I want +ACC and less INT on my wand, or go for +M.Attack and make sure BRD sings +ACC all the time, etc.)

All concepts of battle tactics are gone (forget FFXI Weapon Chains and Magic Bursts). It is simply a matter of cycling through a pre-set pattern of skills... you do not even need to pay attention to what happens, just hit the buttons in the right order.

All concept of 'reacting' to the opponent is gone. They do their dance, you recite your pattern.

So yes, the game is dumbed down... a lot. But the average 'IQ' (or game-hardiness) of players has also gone down, as more 'casual' people play now than before.

Our error is expecting a game that targets the masses (FFXIV 2.0) should meet the same design requirements that a game which targets 'serious gamers' (FFXI or even FFXIV 1.0 to some extent). We have come up with a false expectation of what the game should need of us, and then become disappointed when it fails to meet those expectations.

What we need is to see if there is an alternative for us, or simply better manage our expectations... Take this, not as a 'serious game' with any level of skill or intelligence required. But as a pretty-clicky to look at graphics and enjoy music with.

How many bosses have clear attack patterns? All the primals at least. If you memorize when the boss does each move, it completely trivializes that content. SE should actually unleash the RNG monster on primals. Take away their predictability, keep players on their toes, and force them to react and adapt in seconds or they die. Would make bosses more challenging and fun to be sure.
