    Auto Translating Boss Mechanics

My husband and I were running Sunken Temple of Qarn. We got to the first boss fight. I quickly explained the Bees and Doom Mechanics and away we go. Most of the time things go ok. Maybe we'll wipe once or twice as people learn the fight. But this group was just struggling. This one Lalafell in particular was just not clearing Doom.

That's when my observant husband noticed in the party window that the D was lit up by her name. I don't know a lick of German and thus I realize we were in quite the conundrum. The Lalafell eventually left. I felt terrible. I imagine she was really frustrated and didn't understand why she kept dying. Debuffs are not the most obvious thing in this game.

Any ideas on how you could explain this fight using Auto translate? Any ideas on how to use Auto translation for other boss encounters in the game? Such as the final fight in Brayflox's Longstop or Cutter's Cry?

It may not be the best way, but the first thing that comes to mind is to use google auto translate. Since I don't speak german I imagine it will butcher it, but you can attempt a translation through that and copy/paste it into chat. Kind of like we can sometimes understand the meaning of broken english, perhaps someone who speaks german can understand the meaning of google auto-translate? At any rate, it's better than nothing.

Whew Cutter's Cry could be a problem. I can't log in to the game right now, but in FFXI, there was "Gather together" and "Run away!" in the autotranslate list. Are those still there? If so if the colors Blue and Purple are also in the dictionary, that'd work. If not, Blue is "Blau" and Purple is "Lila" but the word violet is the same.

Otherwise I do agree we need more in the Tactics section. I love playing with people around the world but when the language barrier creates a problem it's frustrating for everyone.

Thats the punishment for selecting language u do not understand in the duty finder. NEVER EVER SELECT LANGUAGE U CAN'T COMMUNICATE IN IN DF. And usually thrid-party dictionary will not work for abilites names (usually even language knowledge wont). Proof? "Dai meikyuu bahamuuto" translated as "Binding coil of bahamut" instead of "Great labirynth of bahamut"
Someone's under the impression that you'll only be matched with English if you only select English. That's not true. All that means is you'll be matched with people who also selected English. You can, and will, be matched with people around the world if they choose English.

I don't understand what you mean here. I don't have multiple languages selected for DF. I didn't even know you could or that it had an effect on the queue/matchmaking system. I only have English selected. If they on their end had English selected as well I'm not surprised if they wanted a faster queue being DPS I don't really fault them for that.

Rather than just saying well there fault I thought brainstorming possible solutions would work. I don't know the auot translation library but something like {Bees}{first} might be there. There must be some way to at least give people a small clue. I'll start experimenting myself with the auto translation feature.

You can say things like {Beware} {Enemy} {Area of effect}, I do not know of any specific translation for "debuf". though you could maybe mangle it with "trait".. or use existing spells as a way to explain. Also for position there is a position section, it has things like {rear}, {side}, {outside}, {this way}.. You should check it out. I have two characters on (different) JP servers, and I am trying to solve this problem too. DF queues are far worse there for many dungeons depending on time of day (as a WHM it took me 90 minutes to queue for Toto-Rak yesterday) and as a result many JP will queue up, some of whom have only limited english speaking skills.

I would basically read through all of the auto-translate menu and look for terms.

Most Germans speak English; indeed, many of them can speak it better than most native English speakers. And by that, I mean the gibberish that spews out of American teenagers' mouths. There are sometimes other reasons for the issues players have, but assuming ignorance or intelligibility is not always one of them -- but better than assuming stupidity.
