An loose example would be like: Requirement to unlock Arcanist Quest would be rank 30 Conjurer and rank 30 Thaumaturge. Then you complete that quest in order to unlock the Arcanist class for you to use. (Or maybe a series of quests. ^-^)
That could work too, though I did like stand-alonishness, that was probably my favorite part about FFTA2. You can't just HAVE your Dragoon, Assassin etc, you must earn them through a flavorful quest which in some of final ones (midgame) can be quite difficult. What I liked even more about A2 though, was how there were no real "best jobs", even though people percieved some, any unit had it's charms. Luso could be a Soldier/Hunter and the game would still be fun, but what I percieve to be the fun part about the Armory system is the concept of that Y/X combination or Job/Armory as opposed to traditional JobA/JobB. In some sense the Job could represent the PC's individuality, while Armory could represent the traditional teachings to the adventurers of Eorzea (as in Job skills being very dynamic on their own, while Armory skills are more specific, but on their broader scale).
