Harassment and bots

Just don't do it.
While working on my weaving I got to lvl 20 and saw that I needed Diremite web(HQ for my gathering outfit I need).
I switched to lvl 50 summoner and headed over to North Shroud.
While I was there I grouped with a tank for a few rounds.
5 secs after the tank left to do other things I had an archer private message me.
He said it was obvious that I was a bot.
I replied A bot?
He said yes your a bot and Im reporting you.
I replied fine report me nothing is going to happen, Im not a bot.
He replied he was now blisting me.
Now at this point it was ok.
What he did next was not.
He agroed Lanterns and brought them over to me so that the aoe's would distract me and my pets while he would then attack the diremites.
Gil spammers and the harvest bots are a scourge but resorting to harassment of innocent players is a bit much.
Let SE investigate and take the appropriate actions.

Ive seen 2 kinds of mining bots, the one that teleports from node to node, and the lvl 21+ just outside of Ul'dah mining the lvl 5 nodes with naught on but a lvl 9 jacket. Both are FC'less. I have yet to see any bots killing spawns.
And then there are the names Asdfgrew Asdfgrew, its like they cannot use the random name gen.
The few spam bots with normal names appear to be hacked accounts. I have yet to see any of the harvest bots with normal names.

Considering the number of actual bots who have been reported..and still continue to bot it up..I don't think you have anything to worry about.

You would think that the simple fact that you responded to him would have been enough evidence for him to not think you were a bot..that said maybe he was just being a tool cause he wanted to farm diremite webs..its crazy competitive there sometimes.

Yeah, a bot would take the time to level to 50 smn... lol. If I had to guess, the dude just wanted to scare you away from the farming spot so he could have all the diremites to himself. ;P

I have nothing to worry about regardless. If he was there for the webs as well, no need to be piggy about it. As a summoner I put 1 dot and let my 2 pets finish it off, leaving plenty of damage for others to get kill credit on it as well.And as I mentioned in the OP I joined up with a tank when I first got there. Share and share alike is my motto, plenty to go around.

I've met some pretty good friends 'sharing' farming spots. I distinctly remember one person I met while farming leeches in FFXI. To this day, we are still friends... something like 8 years later.

Which as you said is not ok. People that do said thing just to get control over a spot don't often realize that by doing so they are risking being banned themselves. As if I am out farming something, and someone intentionally does something like this to me, you better bet I am filling out a harassment report on them. Yeah, it might annoy me for a few minutes, but is it really worth risking all the time you put into your account?

People need to keep in mind doing anything beyond just reporting suspected botters, can flip the tables and get you in trouble as well.

That's a very manipulative person and will likely be in jail or working a hopeless job in no time.

Don't worry about it, do something else until they leave after 10 minutes.

If someone else is farming for the item, I don't think it will work though. I think to get the item, one has to be the first to claim it, a.k.a. red name. Not sure though.
