    Improve NM FATEs (FFXI/FFXIV Hybrid)

NMs aren't very epic in this game, so I wanted to toss out a proposal.

    Proposal:
    - Make ALL world NM fates have a special unique item tied to them.
    - At the end of the encounter have its special item (100% of the time) go to one of the gold-ranked participants.

    What this will do:
    >> Make FATEs far more exciting
    >> Increase world flavor.
    >> Gives adventurers random chances at fortune if lucky.
    >> Gives farmers something to farm IF they chose to do so. (Won't have to fight for tags like FFXI and can do other things in the area while waiting for spawn unlike FFXI)
    >> Will make current NMs much more memorable like they were in the old days. (Leaping Lizzy) without all the hassle.
    >> Only 1 per gold reward keeps the market from being flooded like the current mini pets that drop from NMs such as Cancer.

At the current state I could only see it adding to the game so long as the reward is "hidden" from everyone else, and only shows up if you got the item when you get your FATE rewards (to avoid bashing).

I'd farm the hell out of NM fates if they did this just for the random luck/fun...

I don't mean to bump, but I realize some people thumbs up'd. I'd appreciate it if I could get some feedback rolling so we can get a discussion going. I'd adore this game if this was added.

Please, let's keep beating the dead horse, again and again.

Things that have changed and removed due to XI/XIV, and aren't coming back:

    1. Claim botting
    2. Time spawn camping
    3. RNG unique gear that aren't earned via hard work, aka: beating ONE mob instead of doing a real dungeon run.
    4. Reasons for RMTs to exist in this game

NMs with unique drops just happens to promote reasons 1-4.

BTW, aren't the pets special items?? So it is already done.

    What a pleasantly hostile reaction.

Did you even read beyond the OP's title? He's not suggesting any claiming/camping stuff like there was before.

He's just saying that there should be more rewards for boss monster FATEs. And I agree, there really needs to be something more exciting after you find a huge boss mob and take it down. If not rewards for every single boss, then at least a boss-hunting achievement track.

And if they never introduce more rare/cool items into the game because it's a "reason for RMT to exist," that's just tragic. Making the game economy more boring to discourage bannable activity? That's letting the terrorists win, if you'll forgive the phrase.

    Yeah I hate FATEs.

Have you farmed FATEs/done FATE lvling parties, by any chance? If so, I can see why you'd get bored of them. But I only do them if they happen to pop up near where I've been exploring, and they haven't gotten boring for me yet. Yeah, I level a lot slower than most people, but I seem to be having more fun than everyone that complains so much about FATEs.

One of my favorite experiences so far in ARR was stumbling upon the Lazy For You lvl20-ish boss Ochu FATE. It was actually challenging and had some interesting boss mechanics with adds, AOEs, all that. The Baby Bun minion I got after narrowly escaping death several times was a great reward.

Anyway, I definitely agree that there should be more rewards or SOMETHING to make those boss FATES feel as exciting as a boss battle should feel. I wouldn't mind a little RNG like the OP suggested, with only 1 person out of all those who got a gold getting the item. Or something like that. Everything below 50 (and even some endgame stuff) is way too common and easy to get in this game. I need exciting things to spend my gil on. I also need the small chance to loot something actually valuable once in a while!

You aren't suppose to be the Super-Avatar at sub-50, period. That is why there are endgames and endgame raids/dungeons/quests.

Your ilvl 50 item is only good to carry you so you can go ahead and challenge the next level, and FATE isn't it. FATEs are just a stepping stone for you to get to the next level so you can move on ahead and go take on those more rewarding challenges.

    EDIT:
FATE boss aren't the same as dungeon boss battles as they do not contain any challenges as they are just zerg fests.

    What this will also do:
    > Encourage more crowding of fates, especially if the drops are sellable.
    > Fates are a funny thing. They can't have complex mechanics because *everyone* lags in fates. There's too much being sent to the client. You're also lucky to be able to see the ground.
    > Encourage SE to keep on keeping on with a flimsy system. FATEing truly is the most boring leveling I've ever seen. I'd love to see content move away from it.

    Yeah I hate FATEs.

Both of the real NM already follow this, so this topic is pointless. Things like Cancer are regular FATE bosses (that occur at every level range, even 1-9) and not NM. Behemoth and Odin are the games, current NMs.

Then they'd be zerged by 200 people 100% of the time and still be zero fun. This game needs less emphasis on fates, and less things tied to fates until they can actually design them in a way they're fun and scale properly.

Tequatl in GW2 is a "mega boss" that takes 100+ people and is actually CHALLENGING for that many people and hard to kill. Most servers still can't kill him(the new version).

I'd love something more Besieged-like than most of our FATEs, as Besieged was amazing and consistently produced a full, 500 person-filled zone back at AU's height, but for now it seems unreasonable because for some reason an eleven year-old game can load enemy models properly even with 300 people attacking something when this game can't.
