Steamworks, Steam Achievements and Syncing FFXIV PC to PS3 with Steamworks.

Just before PSN was taken down by hackers who convinced Anonymous to attack PSN in Hacktivism raid as a distraction for thier own intrusion into Sony's network leaving the blame on Anonymous to take the fall.

A game came out called Portal 2. Portal 2 was unique. It allowed a user who owns Steam to connect his PS3 to his steam account and share his PS3 trophies with his PC Steam account. Awesome. It also implemented a lot of other online features including, If you bought the PS3 version and registered its Online Code to Steam you would get free access to the PC client on Steam for PC/Mac.

This was a genius Marketing plan and as I understand it right now the PS3 version is the highest selling version.

I would like to Request that SE, Sony, and Valve all get together to implement this same solution into Final Fantasy XIV.

So Basically this request has multiple parts.


1. Release FFXIV on the PC Version of Steam With Steamworks installed and Achievements implemented.

2. Release the PS3 Version of FFXIV with Steamworks attached and Crossplanting Trophies.

3. Allow PS3 Players to automatically sync FFXIV to Steam allowing them to install the client from Steam on PC as well.

4. Allow users to attach their SE Account to either Steam, or Paypal and let them buy Crystal through Steam/Paypal.

Sounds like a good idea.
Steam already has FFXI on it so I don't see why the two companies couldn't sort something out when the game gets its PS3 release.

Why is it a horrible idea? If you're gonna say something like that, at least give a reason why.

Also as for achievements, I feel that they don't need to be viewable on steam to be honest. It would just be nice to good to have the game available via a popular PC game distributor.

But if they did find a way to sync achievements I wouldn't exactly complain.

Trophies have to be on the PS3 Version, so theres no point in not sharing them.

Oh I see, by achievements you meant the trophies you can get on the PS3. I thought you meant the history achievements you can view on the lodestone.

Sure, if SE can come up with a decent set of trophies (which I'm sure they can) then that would be good IMO.

By the Sony SDK Developer Rules they have too. To release a game on the PS3 it has to have Trophies.

Really? That's the first I've heard of such rules.

Actually I can think of a few games which I have on my PS3 which do not have trophies, though the trend today is that they do have trophies.

If you know where I can find these SDK rules it would be nice if you could link them.

There are a few people that I know who have some how (I'm not sure how it's done lol) connected FFXIV though Steam. Whenever they start up the game it pops up on my friends list that they are playing FFXIV, it's nice to know when my friends are logging into the game.

I think that it is a perfectly legit idea. Those who do not wish to use Steam or don't have Steam and don't wish to go those the hassle of setting up Steam because they can see the info on their lodestone don't have to use it.

Those who wish to use Steam, or download Steam to use it in such a manner would probably love this idea. Also those who already have Steam would probably love to show off their achievements to their friends who also play on Steam. I know I enjoy seeing what my friends have done, and love to show off what I have done as well.

So seeing that it would not be required to use Steam, but would be there for those who DO wish to do this and implement it I see no problem with recommending this. For those who don't like the idea, well they wouldn't have to do it so there is no reason to say its a bad idea. If there is someone who feels its a bad idea or doesn't want to use it in such a manner then they simply don't activate it if it does happen.

I like the idea, would be interesting to see if they would do it, seeing (as someone else already stated) that FFXI is already accessible though Steam as well.

What was the release date of those games? PSX/PS2, and Games released before Trophies were implemented on PSN are exempted from the rules. (Metal Gear Solid 4 For instance)
