Feisty Chocobo, what class is he and why?

As a melee dps i'm torn between making my chocobo a healer and a tank. I'm not sure which path to spec him into.

Which is more effective as a companion in your experience. I'm a monk

I would think a tanking chocobo if you are melee so you can get your positional attacks off easier.

I stay in my monk class all the time, so I find that healer works best. More sustainable HP, and once it gets choco cure it's a bonafide healer.
Tank would be a good choice to take advantage of positional bonuses, like hitting from the flank or rear.

Both excellent points for a MNK choco, but you could also have it do both if you wish, it just wouldn't be "spectacular" in either regard.

I'm trying to get my choco medica. If you're not doing anything dangerous, having him in free stance helps DPS, but he only casts after his entire melee animation ends if it is required. Healer stance makes him heal pretty potently, never had I died in fate bosses if I was tanking him on my LNC or Cleric CNJ.

IMO as a DDs (Bard) I tried choco tank first, thinking that I would have free way to deal damage without getting aggro and maybe solo some boss fates but I was pretty disappointed that I got much more hate than my chocobo making it useless (I like to SPAM when I'm playing alone...). So, I turned it into attack mode and I kill mobs faster and hence get more exp... Anyway, theres always more ppl in FATES that are willing to heal you in case you get hit.

attacker or healer is probably the best bet. If you're SMN, you get your own tank if you really need one. On any melee DPS, you can do the tanking while the bird heals you.

I personally made mine a healer/attacker hybrid. The cure is very useful but on the other hand, most mobs die really quickly and you dont always need healing.

I play a Monk mainly and I chose to go with Attacker with some Tank just to add more damage. I find the heals don't really affect me much especially at lower levels with other classes and it's VERY easy to draw hate off a tank chocobo so why not just kill it faster
