Add me up. Gilbert Lapine, Balmung.
This x1000. I'll take the actual vanity slots over a Lightning event any day. Push back the fluff and give the community what it wants! Anything short of that is just inviting the ire of the players.

Late to the party but signing this despite the rep post. ASAP on this one as far as I'm concerned. I craft mostly, and four of the five(?) models for crafting gear (that keep repeating...) before AF are awful. I couldn't believe when I got into the 40s on my first crafting job and the gear "upgrade" was a . . . smock. Ugh.
with all due respect to the devs, most gear looks like crap and the fact that up until end game most people wear the exact same looking gear is just appaling! i care for stats of my gear not looks but when im a blm wearing pink gloves and an olive hood i look like a gimp....rpg, role playing game best parts of rpg being able to make a character my own, looking like every other blm is not me making my character my own
add my signature please

Many play for more than the race to the end. We like individuality and nice looking armor.
1) Vanity slots are priority to many of us.
2) make better looking armor to begin with and allow us to dye unique items and we would have less of an issue to start with.
Actually, I added that summed post with a laugh. You don't need to be so uppity/trolly. I'm aware of the various teams and what goes into all stages and who does what. I do this sort of stuff for a living, thanks.Sadly like the previous poster youve missed one major detail...WHO ADDS IT INTO THE GAME?! Seriously the Artist/Model Team do their work but without it being coded into the game by the Dev's(Hell surely the Dev team request this stuff from them as a start) or placed into Content as Rewards etc, whats it doing? Oh yea, Sitting there in the Animators files awaiting to be coded into the game.
Sure there are all the departments, Sounds, Battle, Art, etc etc...but without it being coded or even ASKED for by the Devs I doubt each team goes off their own backs and does what they want and adds it to the game themself, is that really how you (And the other person) think it works?!
Pardon my ignorance as I have no experience in such things, however from what I understand, wouldn't it be as simple as creating an npc that can allow you to change the .dat? or graphic file? of a selected item to a different items /dat/graphic file?Greetings,
We realize that there is a huge demand for vanity slots and the development team would like to implement this as soon as possible. However, implementation will not make it in time for patch 2.1.
We'll be sure to keep you updated on the status, but rest assured that it is on the way!
Maybe a feature where the items have to be for the same class, and you have to have acquired the vanity file you wish to use and have in hand the item whose graphic you want to change. For example, getting the mages battlerobe (lvl 30?) would give you the ability to apply that graphic file to a militia robe. Getting rid of the item does not get rid of the abilitiy to use that graphic file on an item. It would be like collecting vanity files instead of minions, and having to go to an npc to change the graphic.
Is this possible/easily implementable?

And yet I explained why you can't just toss stray coders on your staff at a problem and expect faster results. Its like fixing a car, you can only put so many mechanics under one hood before they get in each other's way. The others you put to work on another car.Sadly like the previous poster youve missed one major detail...WHO ADDS IT INTO THE GAME?! Seriously the Artist/Model Team do their work but without it being coded into the game by the Dev's(Hell surely the Dev team request this stuff from them as a start) or placed into Content as Rewards etc, whats it doing? Though the person you're responding too is incorrect. There is very little art involved in a task like this. Outside interface setup the vanity system is a pure coding task. So the coders on the Quality of Life aspects of the game know where to work on next.

Petition to lift the silly dye restrictions:

Just say NO to vanity slot restrictions:

You are making an assumption that the developers do, but it is highly doubtful that this is the case. The systems to add new gear, vanity items, etc..., would have already been developer by the coders, with, likely, a useful interface for other team members (read: non coders) to make additions and modifications of the database (since this is all it really amounts to, data entry). At no time would a coder need to be involved unless a fix or addition to the game engine is needed to implement the new gear (which is an exception, not the rule).
