No, it's not a legal issue, it's laziness and poor design. If you're going to sell boxed sets of a subscription game in a country, you have no excuse for not setting up your billing system to accommodate it's citizens.

Actually, in some regions it is. They have case precedent concerning virtual property and such that creates a potential problem for SE when it comes to how their Crysta system works. For instance, the issue of refunds--in some countries it may actually be illegal for SE to not offer refunds.

Thus, some regions have never had Crysta offered to them, and my never because of how SE prefers to manage the system. So, those players have to use a different method of payment for access.

We went 10 rounds over this with XI about 2 years ago. Nothing new... just been a while, so forget exactly where all the restrictions were and likely still are in effect for some regions.

They are getting the XIV time cards out there, just not sure who all has them yet. As I recall the initial reports about it, you would go to a site listed on the card, put in your SE AM credentials, and redeem the code on the card. It's likely integrated into the mog station now, with options that only show up for renewal via the cards when you select that as a method of payment/renewal. Just never tinkered with it myself, as I still had Crysta on the books from when I quit XI, so I intend to just continue with that option for now.

Credit card is my only option right now, then. Thank you for confirming. I'm wary of that option because, as others have stated, there are many errors in the mogstation, and I don't want to risk going 30 days without being able to play because of a messy payment registration system.

NA game time cards aren't available, and my account (being in South America) is designated as NA. I can't use EU or JP game time cards.

What I don't understand is why every single other payment option is bundled under Crysta when Crysta availability is obviously very restrictive. Why not just allow payments through Playspan directly is beyond me.

You choose the amount of Crysta you want to buy/claim and then it gives you error 11000 before even giving you payment options. I have an Ultimate Game Card, but it's totally useless when Square Enix doesn't let people claim them.

I think they mean that instead of buying Crysta, pay directly with a CC. Not sure how risky that is and all that but my CC has a $500 limit and I monitor it fairly religiously and act right away if someone uses it without my permission. So maybe you can get a CC with a small limit and use that to pay directly instead?

Except most people want to buy Crysta because MogStation is broken and didn't accept their Visa/Mastercard/whatever in the first place, or accepted it and then refused to charge anything but the test $1 amounts.

Update: I believe this issue might be tied to a larger problem... I just tried to purchase Crysta on my account and received a message telling me I could not exceed the Crysta limit of 10,000... my account is sitting at 1,348 Crysta and I need to pay for FFXI at the beginning of the next month.

I've been unable to get their payment system working with a Credit, Debit, or Bank card up to this point so Crysta was my only option through Paypal.
A couple of days ago I purchased Crysta to pay for the subscription without any problems, now this problem is popping up in error...

SE needs to get their payment system together or risk an all out genesis come the end of new players' free 30 days.

If you can't add crysta using credit card, simply, use ultimate pay as payment option when adding crysta to your account, that option has other several options to pay, PayPal/Moneybookers/Western Union, and others.

Once you complete your payment/deposit to ultimate pay, they will then transfer the funds to Square Enix, and will reflect the crysta in your account.

Using that method I was able to get crysta using my online bank account fund transfer, took a day to clear the payment and reflect the crysta in my account but well, there're other options you can use for sure.

I can't add Crysta at all. I get an error when choosing the amount of Crysta, not when selecting a payment option for it. The only option available to me is using my credit card directly to pay for the subscription itself, and that's a problem when trying to register credit cards keeps giving errors and blocking you from trying again, in spite of repeatedly charging your card $1.
