    Crafting and Elements

    I noticed that when u craft and face different locations different elements pop up unstable
    and u only get 2-3 different in a direction. and im 100% about that i tested it. but i cant figure out what is best yet where to face for better results. PST your thoughts ty.

    Interesting theory!

    I definitely have my habits and tend to craft in the same locations, and facing the same direction. I also notice that Wind and Earth tend to go unstable a lot more than other elements even though I have a lot of attribute points allotted to them.

    I'll try facing in different directions to see if it makes a difference. ^^

    Nooooooo! Not Directional Crafting ; ;

    Hehe.

    This was most people's favourite pet theory for crafting in XI, problem with it though was it's pretty much unprovable, far too many variables (and there are even more in XIV, when you take the minigame into consideration) to isolate to get an accurate test e.g. Your skill level > recipe skill level, elemental times (the Eorzean clock and calendar has elements associated with each in game hour for example), your elemental stats, your physical stats, moon phase, moon polarity, gear, repair status of said gear.

    I think even the XI devs came out and said there wasn't anything in directional crafting but i could be wrong on that.

    Saying all that though, even knowing that it was mostly placebo i still took a couple of seconds to line myself up with 'right' direction when crafting in XI, whatever makes you feel good i guess.

    Testing theory = good; summarily dismissing theory with prejudice and no evidence = less good.

    I will endeavor to contribute my research here when it's in a more digestible form.

    For now, I suspect that the elements are associated with directions. Consider the arrangement of the 12 Guardians as typically represented in a wheel, and there are elementally coloured stars... while it may not make an huge difference, that doesn't mean it doesn't contribute.

    I would bet significant sums and body parts that direction did indeed make a difference to crafting in FFXI, based on 6+ years of playing and taking crafts to 100; maybe only a few percent, but a difference regardless.

    Looking forward to much research and discussion on this topic. ^^

    Apologies, wasn't trying to dismiss anyone's theory or dissuade anyone from researching this.

    What I will reiterate though is just how hard this is to prove, a little bit of googling to find some data on this from XI brought up threads where people had performed tests with thousands of samples, elaborate controls in place and the results were still pretty much inconclusive.

    If you want this theory to get off the ground, I'd like to see similar tests performed, go hit up the crafting forums maybe, drum up some interest and get some data...I'd be more than happy to see this theory proven, anything that can give me a little edge in crafting is certainly a good thing.
