wtf with all this hate to summoners?

i just entered titan Hm and a summoner was with us

and one guy said requeue ppl we got a summoner and all quit

the summoner said what did i do just being a summoner make them all quit?

note its not the first time happen my friend is summoner too and many ppl ragequit in titan HM when summoner join

I have noticed that on certain bosses depending on what i summon or when it can either draw agro away from a the party's tank and/or cause a boss to run to an area where it normally shouldn't etc...the easiest thing to do is either dismiss that egi and re summon him when the tank has enough agro to prevent re agro or else switch out egis for ones which have least amount of agro etc.. In other words, as long as a party has a smart summoner who understands why his summons are causing issues and knows how to adjust strategy this shouldn't be an issue.

Also summoners do a lot of damage to 1 monster at a time where as black mage can spam aoes and take out huge amounts of surrounding monsters at once in the sense that during certain bosses in which addons group up and need to be killed quickly perhaps a black mage is more ideal but as a summoner myself i am happy to be an underdog on the magic front as that is what causes me to strive to be greater

Ignorant elitism. The cause of 90% of job hate in MMOs. :\ They don't recognize pet damage and can't track the DoTs(although they'd probably ignore it even if they could) so all they see is Ruin and think the job sucks.

I think currently the reason people don't want smn is because they are considered one of the lowest dps. Also, there are a lot of bad smns out there who let their pets die mid-fight which also reduces their dps significantly on a parse. At the end of the day elitests want the highest dps classes which are currently bard and black mage with lancer trailing slightly behind. From my experience, monk seems to get the same treatment as smn does in a lot of cases.

That's complete utter crap. Not only have I outtanked people on my SMN (Granted I'm only 31 so far on the job) but my DPS has been pretty stellar using Ifrit Egi so far. What the problem might be, is that some SMN might not realize that their Pet's performance is tied to their own gear/stats.

DoTs don't show up on parsers.
Summoners have a variety of DoTs.
Monks have DoTs as well.
Basically, meterwhores ruin yet another game.

I also think it's because of pet positioning and the pet soaking up every hit over and over. Pet's ignore some AoE types, while others they take full damage from and get one shotted, which makes things a pain sometimes. But I too have noticed arguments over shout where people call out summoner on being too weak and such. when I played summoner, it felt fine, they are just a little slow at starting up as they need to get DoT's up. But once the damage over train is rolling, things are generally great. Plus the damage over times does damage while you're dodging AoE's which most people don't even have time to do, as well as your pet doing that as well.

So there are certain advantages to summoner, it's just in certain fights I think their downsides go against them. I'm not sure, but I think in the titan fight, pets might be able to be ringed out? Which I could see causing a massive problem for a summoners damage.

I think anyone who feels what you said is the major issue (and i hope this isn't the majority case) doesn't realize that it only takes like 5 seconds to re summon an egi, i used to focus on healing my pets during battles but so far (and i havn't done hard modes yet) but when a egi dies i summon it back so quickly people don't even realize it was gone.

well, less than 5 seconds with a swiftcast. Course I don't think having swiftcast on a cooldown is an issue for a scholar, since the way most people die is by being knocked out of the ring. can't swiftcast raise that.

I think the big assumption is that everyone who rolled Summoner did so because they either thought they'd get actual summons, or they wanted the pet. It's one of those "not as cool as it sounds" classes.
