I find summoner useless for demon wall. I ran it two times however how am I supposed to apply DOTs to the bugs if I am constantly moving? Also forget my pet. My pet is absolutely useless during this. I focus on myself trying to survive rather than my pet.
For Demon wall you can try using Ifrit instead of Garuda Egi they won't die from the poison and will give constant damage
The same way a black mage casts nukes and a healer casts healing spells? Demon wall is easy, just strafe left and right, you have several seconds to cast. SMN has an advantage over BLM in that your DoTs are still rolling while you are shifting left and right.
The ignorance of ppl. I outdamaged my party on Garuda when I did 100k+ damaged and everyone else was under 70k. Yes, it parsed the dot, pet damage and my damage.
Go ahead and quit because a summoner is in your party. Cause guess what? you don't deserve us!!!
SMN is FFXIV are sufferimg just like they did in FFXI .. I suspect a lot of the lomsmn attitude here has been brought over from XI by the same elitist jerks who made SMN life a pain there.
Same with the scholars fairy, though I've noticed that my fairy doesn't take damage from the purple AoE lines the boss places on the ground, so pet's don't need to dodge them. Or at least fairy seems to be able to manage itself. Pretty sure the big AoE in the back would kill a summon though, haven't been interested in testing it out. Though just a thought, a swift cast might be handy to use on your first DoT on the gnats, then when the tank has bunched em up bane em. Usually whenever I've tanked as paladin, I've been attempting to cluster the flies on me, which would help using things like bane immensely.
For me personally I'm biased against beastmaster type classes... and dot classes, so while your dps might be the same as everyone else.... I just don't see it as much as I would on say a burstmaster dragoon. I'd really rather you be a scholar. It's not you... it's me.
the problem with summoners is the players using them not the job. many and i mean many simply don't care that they are pulling mobs off the tanks which makes the entire dungeon a pain to run with loose mobs trying to kill the healer when the mob switches from the summon to the summoner and the healer keeps them alive.
for every one summoner who takes the time to synch themselves with the party there are ten who simply do whatever they feel like the entire time. the same is true of archers there are ten archers who think "wow I can pull any mob from a tank LOOK AT ME I"M GREAT!!!!" while forgetting that a party is supposed to work together to get the job done efficiently and quickly. its not pull all the junk mobs all over the place making the healer waste mana keeping the damage dealer from dieing to those same junk mobs they keep breaking free from the tanks.
You sir, don't know how to play SMN. Just go play something else... maybe DRG, or MNK might suit your play style better.
