Finding people to play with

Hello everyone! I hope this post is alright.

I am a new player to FF XIV. I am no stranger to mmos, I have played many in the past, EQ, WOW and STOR. This is my first FF and none of my friends want to pull a way from WOW. I don't know anyone who wants to play this game or is currently playing this game. My question is, what is the best why to go about meeting in-game to play with. I have never been a big fan of guilds, since most that I have join (in past games) are inactive, immature, not helpful, or to concerned on end games to concern themselves with new players. Overall how is the guild community in FF XIV and what is the best to find a helpful and friendly guild.

Just try to be vocal as much as possible. The people starting out the same time your starting out will most likely be the people around your level as you level up and complete quests throughout the rest of the game. (depending of course on how much your playing.) Get your name out there, instead of using duty finder for dungeons try to get people to join your group on your server to start up with. Alot of people try to play this game solo but if you put yourself out there as a friendly and helpful person you should (in theory) attract other like minded people.

Join social linkshell. Instead of using duty finder, shout for groups or help people with story dungeons. Chances are you'll gain many friends that way. I know I have.

Don't I have to be invited to a linkshell? How would I go about finding a 'good' social linkshell?

Do what start-up FCs do, only in reverse: shout out your request.

/shout L15 WAR (or whatever) looking for a good FC to join. Interested? Pst me.

At this point, joining a guild is a crap shoot. Nobody knows anybody, unless they are already MMO buddies who have gone over to a new game together. (That's what we did.) So..., join the FC that has the coolest-sounding name, and see what develops over time. Don't be Luke Lurker when you get in, though. Remember what your mother always told you: "If you want a friend, then be a friend."

Be picky and wait for a guild that offers a Ventrilo (Mumble, Team Speak) account. This is where you will really get the biggest bang for your buck. Being able to talk to players as you level is a BOON. You will soon make several online buddies that, who knows, may even follow you from game to game.
