I think its a charming idea, that plays on the majority within our community's desire to play nice and promote kindness. It will further marginalize and push out of popularity, the troll behaviour and rudeness. Even SE making the mechanic, is a public disapproval of trolling that will,in some small way, "shame" the trollers. That is a good way to deter bad behaviour from reoccuring

Jerks will be jerks because there is simply no penalty.

A jerk who wants the rewards will be nice for a while, and once he has all the rewards he wants, he turns back into a jerk again. He may even proudly say, "finally now I can be myself again".

The only way to suppress jerks is if they face very real and immediate threats. Such as GM action (which is costly and impractical), or peer sanction. Peer sanction will only work under local-server matching. The sheer number of people in a cross server matching service makes any blacklisting ineffective.

But then any "down-voting" mechanism can and will be actively abused by the trolls, so it's a good idea not to have that.

In the end, I suppose we can only rely on the 2.1 LFG Board to go live. Those who don't mind jerks or are jerks themselves can troll cross server. The rest of us do only local parties, and by blacklisting the jerks in our own server, we eventually will weed them all out.

in all honesty, you cant "shame" someone who cares nothing about what you think of them =P

if they care about getting the points, however, that is how this feature will encourage players to be kind and helpful in a RANDOM duty finder group...

I know it is for RANDOM STRANGERS. I am talking about class roles. In parties, people always compliment tanks and healers, or say "gj guys!" No "good DPS!" I am saying because tank and healer are more essential roles to many people, they will get voted up more likely. Just a concern I thought of. I am all for this system, just being honest!

It's a cute idea but I don't know that it is going to tackle the main offenders of disruptive or offensive behavior. Those individuals tend not to be the sort that are interested in purely fun or aesthetic benefits. Unless this system allows players, which I certainly hope it does not, to buy powerful gear that is going to help their character I don't think your average Leeroy Jenkins will give it much thought.

I agree - if SE continues to add things to buy with the points that the "jerks" want, however, this will never happen, in theory =P

I really like this idea, although I do think that tanks and healers will get more votes, but maybe that isn't a bad thing seeing as a lot of the complaints we are seeing lately are highlighting a bad attitude from some tanks and (less often) some healers. I think the vote should be a pop up at the end of the dungeon and maybe you should be able to give more than one vote, say... 2 in a 4 man and 4 in an 8 man dungeon.

out of pure curiosity, what would be the harm in players being able to turn in "MVP" points for gear?

players may already turn in "tomestones" for gear, so the precedent is already set...

You'd need to always remember to Vote Up every player you play with who is not a problem... if you don't do this then you are treating good players the same as bad players.

Honestly, we need a kick from group feature.

Maybe if can be implemented with the MVP feature, so, only those with a certain number of points can initiate kicks? Would consume the points, so like that, it can't be abused to much on innocent players?
