To people sayin there should be a way to punish players, in all my years of playing mmos I've learnt never give players the power to pass negative judgement. i.e kicking/reporting/downvoting, it never works. People these days will cast down votes on you for the most stupidest things. They don't like your class, you haven't got a certain item or even just for the hell of it. This idea is a good one, but needs work, the only thing i can see wrong with it, out of all the comments and arguments against the idea are, FC groups and pre-mades will be cut out of the loop and wont be able to obtain the items and all the other stuff.

Lets see how this plays out, as long as they keep out what i said at the beginning then the abuse of this will be minimal

I don't see that as abusing it.. From what i'm guessing the system is to stop bad behavior, if the group all agree to upvote but then one member keeps flaming or insulting i doubt the group will still feel happy about upvoting him (remember these are randoms not good mates). if the group all agree and the run goes smoothly with no flaming or insulting, then i don't see why they shouldn't upvote each other. Because like i said it's to prevent bad behavior. I could be wrong and it could go wrong lol, but i'm finding it hard to find ways this could be abused massivily, unless you get constantly grouped with people you know on another server :/ .

I'd like to have MVP points. It doesn't need to do anything either. Karma means jack s--- but I like getting upvotes on reddit anyhow.

This didn't work for League of Legends, it has essentially this same system, and one of the WORST most troll infested communities of any game, personally I feel this won't really change anything, just get people (who are probably nice anyway) pets/mounts/etc.

I would actually like to see a percentile system instead of just one vote per person. And there would be an option to give a 0% to people who were trolling. Whomever got the most percentage would be the MVP.

yes the trolls/bad mannered players will not be punished, but at least they won't have those exclusive armors/mounts/pets, etc
if they want it, they have to change their manner, at least for the DF
they can troll/rage all they want on their own server

I think the MVP system is decent, though like many mentioned, it lacks the punishing factor. I really don't see why there is a need to disregard a downvote. Is it because of abuse? Is it because people don't know what consists of a legitimate downvote? I guess the lack of downvote kind of indicates the lack of faith SE have towards the players.

Let's look at at the downvote. Currently the voting system will be open at the end of a random DF group. Due to the random factor involved in the DF and MVP system, abuse/wrongful downvotes will be uncommon, thus eradicating these outlier votes is quite easy to do. There are so many systems that can control these uncommon anomalies.

An example would be to have a system that awards ONE negative point if a player receive X amount of votes for every 10 votes received (where X is equal to a outlier threshold). Say the threshold is 4 negative votes. After several runs and after receiving 10 votes, a tally is done. A player who receives 4 negative votes out of the 10 will have a negative point attached to his account. On the other hand, if a player receives 3 negative votes, there is no negative point. Of course this threshold can be whatever number SE wants it to be, so long as it is actually a fair number and account for outliers based on some statistical studying.

The idea behind this is simple. If a player is really a bad/negative player, he/she will receive a larger percentage of his/her run as negative compared to neutral/positive players.

As to how to punish people with negative votes, that's the easy part. As long as there is a solid/reliable system in place, you can have any kind of punishment.

This can also be used for positive votes.

Well...if we were worthy of such faith, we wouldn't need such a system to begin with....
