and so on? I don't know what the actual term is for the "Swing Pick" part...


Whoops, never mind. I just realized would be a way to abuse the system with a bot... guess it's back to clicking for me

Macros are a legitimate use, and have been in every MMO since the dawn of them, to decrease the amount of clicking/pressing. This would not be an abuse by a bot, as you would still have to run to each node.

There are already plenty of bots out there, using pos hacking etc. The gathering system is so simple, that bots are so easy to make. By making it a click instead of a button, doesn't stop those who are able to program the bots.


Implementing a legitimate button/macro/keybind etc. would level the playing field, and remove some of the monotony of clicking clicking clicking...

For me at least, I prefer to use the keyboard more as it gives my right-index finger a break from doing all the work! Work all day, game at night, I am going to end up with carpal tunnel syndrome sooner or later at this rate. Please allow us to make the choice of which button to press (mouse or keyboard!)

Part of the reason I loved FFXI so much was the ability to do EVERYTHING on the keyboard, and never having to touch the mouse :/

I use a gamepad when gathering. Walk up- mash X, move on.

Not only is gamepad more convenient, you can lean back, stretch, relax and not be in a keyboard-ready posture all night.

As tedious as gathering/crafting is, I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. Thank god for SE never forgetting about the gamepad crowd! That's why they'll always be the best in MMO's.

I haven't actually used a gamepad in this game yet. But I have an Xbox one I can hook up to my PC. Perhaps I'll give it a try tonight, especially for crafting! Sounds like a fun relaxing way to play the game!

what I did was go into Keybinds --> System and set up F as a secondary "Confirm" button. now, all i need to do is run up to a node and spam F. much better than the default Num0

I've programmed my gamepad key to use "turbo mode," which repeatedly presses a button for me until I let go.

I've also done this with my mouse key.

It works out pretty well, especially for those instances where you're crafting many of the same thing using normal quality ingredients. The advantage of a gamepad is that it maintains what you selected every time so it's little more than pressing a few buttons all with one hand. The other advantage is that the game doesn't need to be the active window... So if you're coordinated enough, and have enough stacks of material to go through, you can essentially craft one handed while surfing the web, watching videos, ect. With sound also being able to persist even with a minimized game window, also makes fishing much less tedious.

Hooked up my gamepad last night. I honestly feel the gamepad is amazing to use when doing gathering and crafting. So much easier than keyboard/mouse. I also tried a setup of the gamepad to generally play the game on my CNJ and ARC. I was incredibly surprised with how well Square Enix implemented gamepad support (not a surprise given the PS3 support). Even though I'm on a PC, gamepad may end up being my main input mode from here on out. I didn't have any problems healing with it (not sure if that will change in 8-man parties or not).

Since I have two monitors, I of course watch shows on Netflix and Hulu while I'm gathering and crafting :P.

Logitech G710+ ftw! Now it's easier to gather with M+KB than with gamepad, because it only takes one button press.

Bots are using a teleport hack to get from node to node.

Its got to be easy enough to set up a gathering macro without cheating.

Just running to the next mode is where time counts for me.

I feel little with 2 bots in the same space though, so slow.
