Not only is gamepad more convenient, you can lean back, stretch, relax and not be in a keyboard-ready posture all night.

As tedious as gathering/crafting is, I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. Thank god for SE never forgetting about the gamepad crowd! That's why they'll always be the best in MMO's.

I haven't actually used a gamepad in this game yet. But I have an Xbox one I can hook up to my PC. Perhaps I'll give it a try tonight, especially for crafting! Sounds like a fun relaxing way to play the game!

It works out pretty well, especially for those instances where you're crafting many of the same thing using normal quality ingredients. The advantage of a gamepad is that it maintains what you selected every time so it's little more than pressing a few buttons all with one hand. The other advantage is that the game doesn't need to be the active window... So if you're coordinated enough, and have enough stacks of material to go through, you can essentially craft one handed while surfing the web, watching videos, ect. With sound also being able to persist even with a minimized game window, also makes fishing much less tedious.

Hooked up my gamepad last night. I honestly feel the gamepad is amazing to use when doing gathering and crafting. So much easier than keyboard/mouse. I also tried a setup of the gamepad to generally play the game on my CNJ and ARC. I was incredibly surprised with how well Square Enix implemented gamepad support (not a surprise given the PS3 support). Even though I'm on a PC, gamepad may end up being my main input mode from here on out. I didn't have any problems healing with it (not sure if that will change in 8-man parties or not).

Since I have two monitors, I of course watch shows on Netflix and Hulu while I'm gathering and crafting :P.

I've just programmed my keyboard to press Num0 6 times (once to select node, then up to 5 attempts) in intervals of 3 seconds.

Logitech G710+ ftw! Now it's easier to gather with M+KB than with gamepad, because it only takes one button press.

FYI, that's considered an external macro and SE can ban you for it.
