It works out pretty well, especially for those instances where you're crafting many of the same thing using normal quality ingredients. The advantage of a gamepad is that it maintains what you selected every time so it's little more than pressing a few buttons all with one hand. The other advantage is that the game doesn't need to be the active window... So if you're coordinated enough, and have enough stacks of material to go through, you can essentially craft one handed while surfing the web, watching videos, ect. With sound also being able to persist even with a minimized game window, also makes fishing much less tedious.
