    Image retention

I am playing on a plasma and I am getting really bad image retention/burn in on my tv from the HUD. I have searched all over for an option to make my HUD translucent and I am unable to find one. Does such an option exist? If not I am sure all the players who own plasma televisions would appreciate the option being added if it is not currently available.

Must be an old plasma, new ones rarely have burn in problems if broken in properly. Obviously if you're leaving the game running for excessive periods of time you need a break and so does your console.

The TV is a 2012 Panasonic Viera TC-P50U50. It is about a year old now and was broken properly and has seen many many hours. I play for roughly 5ish hours at a time with a 15 min break every hour (I use the tvs built in anti image retention scrolling bar). Pixel orbiter is also enabled so I am taking all precautions for image retention.

The PS3 is open to air flow and on a laptop cooling pad.. It has never done anything goofy and is at max mildly warm to the touch..

Anyhow, if there are no HUD transparency settings I hope they add them. They have a map transparency setting that works great and I don't think it would be that hard to integrate that into the HUD and menu system and simply make it user enabled in the settings.

I feel your pain, itsame, as I've had the same issue. It's pretty frustrating since this is the only game I've had any sort of IR issues with of this duration. I've been running screenwash programs regularly to some mild success, but the IR is not fully gone yet. I'm also running a 2012 Pany, the ST50, and it had 800 hrs of use before I started playing XIV. Fortunately, the IR is slight enought that it's usually not visible, but in bright scenes where the focus is on the periphery of the screen, it gets pretty distracting. I'm trusting Panasonic's promise that this should not be permanent, but I also think it will be a while before the IR goes away completely.

This game REALLY needs HUD transparency for this reason. The HUD elements are currently very bright, and I would imagine they could cause IR in playtimes of any duration. Given that MMO's are prone to long play sessions (not to mention completing a dungeon via Duty Finder can be a 1-2 hour affair from registration to completion), they need to implement this quickly.

I'll let you know what works for me. I'm currently using these videos to wash:

You have to take a break every few hours for about 10 minutes and run the progressive scan thing for a few minutes.

    Menu - Setup - Anti-Image Retention - Scrolling Bar

This will happen with ANY game that has a static HUD if you're playing for long bouts at a time.

Mine is the V series, but I'd be surprised if yours didn't have this feature as well.

You're right, opacity setting would be nice, but minimap, skill icons, would still cause burn in.

The built in scrolling bar feature works well for regular treatment, but heavier burn-in requires something of a longer duration. The videos I posted above work in a similar way, but can be looped when downloaded and saved to a thumb drive. The one with the colored circles works particularly well.

Covertghost I run the scrolling bar for a full 15 min run every hour. I am sure it helps the IR, but it is not completely preventing it. I am also lucky enough that it is not too bad and I feel it will go away in a week or so. I would however like to prevent it from happening in the first place and transparent HUD elements would do that.

CappinA I have a PS3 with some music downloaded on it, and I set it to repeat all tracks and run the visualizer full screen over night with good results. Just be sure to use the menu to disable the track name ect from being displayed or else it would do more harm than good. I will check out those videos you use, thanks for the links. Im hoping they address this soon though. I have had mild IR issues with the health bar in Bioshock Infinite (after playing just that game start to finish) but that went away after a night of PS3 visuals, this has been days and is slowly getting better... I want to play again so bad but I just can't!!

Just my opinion, but I don't think a Plasma Screen (or really any screen that isn't a TN LCD) are good for playing games on. You may consider hiding the HUD elements or making them smaller (on windows ctrl-home resizes, and right-clicking on them removes them)
