Server Maintenance During Peak Time

I could be wrong, but I recall prime time in the US to be 9-12 at night. If you consider that the servers will be back up by 6pm on the West Coast, it more than is ready for prime time. Seriously, it's just a couple hours for one day every once in a while. Do something else.

I have been wondering about this same thing! I only have a couple of hours to play, and they seem to feel the need to perform maintenance during those couple of hours. WTF is up with that? Maintenance at 2am or 5am or 7am would be better. I work in IT and have supported servers. If I took our servers down during first shift (busiest shift of the day), I would have been fired. Non-peak times are always preferred times in IT, unless there is emergency maintenance - which this is not. This is planned during the busiest time of the day. Nice planning SE?

Thing is, the times you are seeing are the morning, for the company. They are a Japanese based company, so naturally they are doing maintance during THEIR morning. So yes, it is nice planning ... for their company. Same thing happens to the rest of the world when it comes to American based MMOs (EQ, EQ2, WoW).

SE itself said a couple of weeks ago the majority of players are NA and Japan and EU have about equal numbers. They also said the NA players are more than double the ones in Japan.

Maintenance is a good thing. Please find something else to do during downtime such as talking with friends, watching anime or playing a different game. It's not that hard folks!
