Need, Greed, Pass....what?

Can someone please explain how the loot system in dungeons works?

Is there only one item per chest? If I take it am I taking it from everyone? Can more than one person use greed? Can everyone pass? If so then what? What if more than one person chooses need?

I did my first dungeon last night and was so confused.

Need is class-specific, when you press need that means you basically REALLY REALLY NEED it ,so no other class can get it but you unless someone else is the same class as you in the party. As for greed you roll against everyone else in you party and pass is self-explanatory.

For MMOs I have only ever played the Phantasy Star and Monster Hunter Frontier games, which have a very different loot systems. I also did not have time to read the tutorial when it popped up as the rest of my party was moving on.

Hahahahaha so true! Carve and carry! Monster Hunter Frontier G was announced for the Vita last night! WOOHOO! Only in Japan for now, but the Vita is not region locked so import, import, import. (As long as the servers are not NA locked and the subscription is payable with USD) It also will have cross-play with the PS3 version! That, my friend, is the sound of a million Vitas selling in Japan! I swear I have seen the name GeistXIII somewhere, do you frequent Capcom Unity or have a MH related youtube? The Unity Hunters are all on Coeurl if you ever consider a different server!

I got Perma banned from unity, because like several other popular players, we protested the move to nintendo(sales are down surprise surprise lol). Oh, and MHFG is releasing for both PS3 and vita, but will with JP, it will have the monthly fee still most likely, and they will most likely ban anyone with a non JP IP(happened to me back before forward 1 came out). My first Youtube channel got deleted because youtube is dumb and thinks everything is copyright infringement, lol. I do Have another on, but i haven't posted anything on it in forever: http://www.youtube.com/user/MakeEmRageQuit

I'm on Phoenix and Hyperion servers. When transfer come in, I might move my hyperion character to a less populated server.

Not everybody will know this. There are not as much MMO players out there as you think. :P
And good. We have enough MMO junkies as it is.

That is a real problem in the game. I really get annoyed when people run off without giving me any time to read anything. Sometimes you just have to skip the tutorial or the other players loose patience, go ape-sheit and quit the dungeon after 5 seconds. Hence threads like this, where people need to fill out the blanks.

Alas, not every MMORPG uses the exact same lootsystem.. Stop being rude.

Yeah essentially need the item if you can use it as better gear, greedy if you plan to sell it for money or trade it, and pass if you don't want it.
