I thought it was at first, but then noticed that Cid doesn't do squat for the entire duration of that whole encounter. Either it's a faulty assumption to make, or Cid requires a LOT of focus and time when he thinks.

I think he realized "Hell, why bother? You guys are doing a good enough job. Keep at what you're doing there, I'm going to nerd out over being in this Magitek Armor for a few minutes."

That or he really just figured "Hmmm, nope. Got nothing, you're on your own."

During the fight hes taking out the generator or w/e it is while your protecting him. Beyond that, when the adds spawn he takes out the claws that are linked to the boss while others get the adds.
