Ultimately, whether on purpose or not, Crafters trading with Crafters is a good way of sapping all that extra gil out of Legacy servers through the market.

On day 1, no one was selling shit for 100k on non-legacy worlds as every player was a fresh character.
Meanwhile, 10's of millions, no probably 100's of millions of gil got leeched through market tax as crafters sold items for 100k to other crafters and back again countless times.

Because it was intended by SE - Yoshi P have stated before that he doesn't believe that DoH/L should be as important as battle classes, which is a shame really, it was one of the things that I liked about 1.0.

Combine that with the game practically trying to drown players with free pre-lvl. 50 gear, the gutting of the materia system via stat cap, and the massive nerf the ilvl 70 recipes that for all intends and purposes made them irrelevant due to the extreme cost, and you arrive at what we have right now - bunch of crafters and gatherers doing nothing but feeding and filling each other up in our own little circle, while the rest of the players just skip us by while wearing dungeon/token gear.

One thing crafting IS POTENTIALLY good for though, is building trash sets for spirit-bonding.

Although you can buy the item LvL55 NQ Militia gear for a few K gil each, they still need to be crafted.
Now, for the time being no one is buying them which suggests perhaps most people aren't doing this yet or there's another option i'm unaware of, but spirit-bonding Militia gear in particular or trash mobs is important because it gives Grade IV Materia. ... which is currently selling for up to 100k each on Sargatanas, whereas the Grade III stuff only goes for 10-20K... and even then, if people spirit-bond on trash mobs enough, they should need replacement trash gear.

Granted this was far more relevant in 1.0 before the system changed, and i made 10's of millions from it, but...
There should still be a good market for it within the DoW and DoM classes... despite darklight and so on...

Bah, who needs to be rewarded with gil or items or even appreciation for your effort. It's all about the journey, amirite? Working hard and getting nothing for it builds character!

A ton of the nicer things we can make have the same issue, the prices keep being undercut to the point it's not profitable anymore. A few exceptions aside, it's just completely terrible.

I love the weapons and DoW/DoM armor being sold for less than the NPC's will buy them. Hm.. I could list this crafting log item for 10 gil with the other fifteen people who have done the same, or I could sell it to an NPC for 48 gil!

Seeing that on the market still confuses me every time, although it is also no longer surprising.

problem with that Nefario, is that what is the market for materia outside of DoH/L? you can't materia relics or af2 or allagan or darklight, which leaves you with the lol-i70 gears, and even there you get double slammed because all the main stats are already capped.

The main stats on the ilevel 70 is only capped for the HQ versions of them. Or at least that is what appears to be true from the two pieces I have made. The HQ Vanya robe of healing did indeed have capped stats which allowed me to meld critical for my scholar. Whereas the NQ hat I made required me to use 2 materia slots to cap the stats.

In 95% of all MMO's crafting is just a time and cost sink until you hit max level. This is one of the reasons you see people sell below cost. They are trying to minimize the loss of getting to the highest level.

Except for the rare MMO like Eve, don't expect to make anything from crafting until you hit 50. Even then, with a lot of MMO's it isn't until the first or second major content patch that crafters really become valuable. Most MMO's prioritize non-crafting elements (for obvious reasons) and crafters don't usually start getting attention until after several patches.

I am not saying its the way it should be, but it is the way it almost always is.
