Doing the Dirty Work: Need Help

I know that the correct mob is the Halistoper and not the regular Stoper.

My problem is, I use the potion on the thing and it doesn't kill it. My BLM doesn't stand a chance against it once he attacks me with his breath (it renders me useless and I can't attack...).

How do I complete this quest?

EDIT for DAILY LIMIT: Thanks for the tips. I was thinking the potion was supposed to actually kill it. And for some reason, the breath hits me even when I move out of AoE range. I'll rethink my strategy next time. Now I have my chocobo to help me.

Those types of quest you need to use the item on the target. When you do, you put two EXTREMELY powerful debuffs on it with a 4m duration, one that cuts it's max health by what I believe is 75% and another that more than halves the damage it deals. But you still need to fight it, except they are much more soft now

as soon as you see it going to do the bad breath attack get out out the AoE zone ,

if you get hit by bad breath yo most likely will die

maybe party up with some one (or more) and then kill it

you if you are lucky people will help you without asking (it dose happen)
get a heal, ho help killing the mob

the main thing is DO NOT LET BAD BREATH HIT YOU
if you get hit RUN AWAY (sprint)

as a BLM yous should have range on you side

As with any AoE, the second the red circle appears/you see him casting Bad Breath, move. Don't try to narrowly dodge it, various elements (lag, game mechanics, etc.) make it so that doesn't work. If you're still having problems getting hit by the AoE, try to swiftcast a sleep on him the second you see Bad Breath begin. Sleep should interrupt it.

This is still one of the easier enemies, since bad breath is the FIRST attack it will use in battle and have a long cooldown.

once you strike it with the item, immediately prepare to run. Don't stand there casting your next spell.
After it uses bad breath (and hopefully misses you), it's time to take him down.

Btw, if you thought this was bad... wait until you face Aurum Vale boss...

I speak both English and Japanese.
sometimes does translations in dungeons too...
However, please try to not use Duty Finder with a language you don't know, because not everyone understands English.

Sorry for necro'ing an old thread but...

I read this thread and a few others regarding this quest. I used the medicine on the "marlboro" enemy and it did not knock his health down by 75% nor did it nullify his bad breath. I tried using the medicine before attacking, during attacking, before he cast his bad breath, and nothing, and no matter how far out of his bad breath zone I got, he still hit me. The only way I was able to complete this quest was some random level 54 player saw me struggling and helped me kill it. So just wanted to say this quest seems bugged still or people are still having problems with it.

The item doesnt bring it's health down to 75% in the way you might think, it's max hp gets lowered but it'll still be at 100% hp and the item also doesnt negate it's bad breath attack you have to move out of the aoe no matter what.

    Hope this helps

When you use the item, you have to be close to the thing you are fighting. Stay there and start fighting. When it uses Bad Breath, run forward underneath it out of the AOE. It's a long, conal attack so running away will pretty much ensure you don't get out of it and get all the debuffs. The Halistroper is easy to kill as long as you avoid Bad Breath. I've killed it many times with alts and I'm far from being a great player

Yep, the easy way to avoid large frontal cone AoE attacks like bad breath is to stay within melee range and then move behind the enemy as soon as the cast starts.

You can also move around the enemy and usually also run straight through to the other side. This is very useful for morbol, cyclops, and minotaur type monsters.
