FATEs also give you money and grand company seals (and sometimes extra goodies, depending on the FATE). I agree that it's not a perfect method of leveling up, but it has its perks that straight monster camping doesn't.

In an MMO, effective time management has its own rewards, if you can power your way to 50 in one night, you can spend the rest of the time you would normally had on low lvl FATEs on more important things, farming, doing dungeons and other things that would yield a MUCH higher rewards than FATE grinding. The OP has a very good option given to ppl now that FCs can take advantage of.
