Naked Gatherers

When I first saw people running around naked I thought "Here we go again". Then I picked up Botany and learned that when I switch into my gathering class, I lose my clothing!

Will I eventually get gathering clothing from quests or should I visit the market place and try to pick up some gathering gear?

I think you can still wear your level 1 racial gear, assuming you kept it. But yeah, lol. Good times otherwise.
I'm not sure about gathering equip. I would think you can buy some from NPCs to get started, anyway.

At low levels, it doesn't matter all that much. And there's no sense in putting wear and tear you'd just have to repair on gear that doesn't benefit gathering (such as your racial starting gear) unless you're looking to up its spiritbond to turn it into materia. Thus, naked.

You will get some gathering gear from quests eventually. One piece for the level 5 quest, one for the level 10, etc. You don't really need gathering gear right away, but as you level, you'll start to notice a sharp drop in your chances for successful gathering. At least, if you stick with gathering at/above your level. I bought a full set of gathering gear from vendors around level 10, IIRC, and have made some kind of effort to stay up-to-date since then. If you want to buy some right away, the lowest level stuff is pretty cheap.

Adding to what Bixby mentioned, the higuer you go the harder it is to lvl up properly with normal gear. I personally found a good buddy whom craftes HQ gathering gear for me, i provided him with mats/crystals/ and a good chunk of gil for all this stuff and yet it is much cheaper and well worth the time than just buying it off market. I lvl my gathering faster and this helps me lvl my crafting faster.

In summary, find yourself a good weaver/leatherworker and help him lvl so he can give you that awesome gear, its a win-win situation.

You can buy gear, but as you level the craft and do the quests they will provide you with gear.
I think either level 1 or 5 quests gives you a shirt thingy, and the first gives a tool.

I wear my RSE just because I don't want to run around naked. You get a level 1 chest piece for your first quest and after that your quests reward gear options and you can fill in the blanks from vendors/market board.

if u take numerous gathering classes n level them all evenly u can take the most of level set everytime u hit 5,10,15 etc etc


same thing goes for crafting classes ;3

It removes any gear you cannot equip at the current class/level.

as a lalafel, i haven't thought of gathering while naked.. thx for advice!!!
