    How to play together?

So my wife and I want to play together but since each class has its own starting city is there any way we can make the toons we want and then play together right away? I don't want to have to try to traverse the world as a level one to get to a different starting city. I do know that some classes start in the same city like Gladiator, Pugilist, or Thaumaturge start in Ul’dah. What if I dont want to make one of those types bus she does? How to play together?

You have to finish the main storyline till 15 that unlocks airships.
Later on they are thinking about removing anyways.

It doesn't take to long to get to 15, do your hunting logs and the main missions, you'll be together in a couple of hours.

“What if life was like a vapor, rising up from the heated viscosity of our existence? One minute it is thick and robust, full of depth, but instantly it changed and separated to near nothingness. What would it be like at the apex of separation? That point when all the steam has left your existence….”

Like the other have said, either start playing the classes from one city or you will need to wait until the airships are unlocked in the story quests. Remember too, jobs require two classes so you could pick beginning classes based on what you will need in the future.

You can't leave or get to Limsa anyway until you're a level 10 or 15 anyw ay...lulz its an island. I've been nosy and ran through the black shroud up to where the level 40-50 people were...as a level 6 lancer. There was a path even farther from where I was supposed to be but I figured it was open range from there so I turned back.

    Sorry about that

A class at level 15 for your job. You might want to level what will be your sub class with her and then work your main class later.

Say you want to be a Bard, and want to start in Gridania as an Archer. But your wife wants to be a Summoner and start in Limsa Lominsa as an Arcanist. Bard requires a level 15 Pugilist to unlock. Summoner requires a level 15 Thaumaturge to unlock. Easiest solution is to start as PGL and THM in Ul'dah and get your subs pre-leveled together.

Just an example. Point is, you will always want to level other classes, either to unlock a job or to get cross class skills. For instance, my Archer right now has skills from Marauder, Pugilist, Lancer and Conjurer equipped. It's because I've leveled those classes that I have access to the skills.
