The reason it seems weird is because its incomplete. Only Arcanist is complete. Once we get more second Jobs for the existing classes, it will feel better and that you're actually makeing a choice. I do agree that being the base class does seem to have little purpose, especially given how many hp/mp you get just for equipping a soul crystal.
