On topic, from what I understand SE wants the jobs to be simply upgrades and nothing more. The choices come later when they implement multiple jobs per class.
If they did what the OP is saying, Jobs would be nearly useless. Especially since as of now the only real plus is the stat bonus, which is what "sweeps them under the rug." (Obviously skills, but OP is saying give classes their own skills.) If they gave them their own skills the "upgrade" wouldn't ever be used.



What the game needs is more solo/companion content, because that's where classes hit their stride, providing the actions needed for survivability. Makes me wish there was a lot more to the Beastman strongholds. a sparse affair someone can chocobo their way through does not scream "Military Force that holds its own against the City States."
