    Base Classes Irrelevant

    Before I hit level 50 I was under the impression that Jobs were an alternate version of their base class and not a means to an end. At level 50 (after lvl 30), it feels like there's no point in being a class vs job i.e. Why be a Pugilist when I can be a Monk.

    I don't have any issues with the way the Jobs play but I do think it would be interesting if the classes didn't get swept under the rug by their job counterparts. It would be interesting is the classes learned 5 exclusive skills between level 30 and 50 like the jobs; maybe even give them their own gear set.

    I would say remove classes altogether. They make no sense in the current game.

    From what I heard, the intention was that classes were solo and jobs were for group content. BUT, the job design was not all created equal. While some classes apparently became more limited by becoming a job, others like my WHM only got better in every way possible. The only crossclass abilities with ANY use to CNJ are also the same as WHM so once I hit 30 I've been WHM 100% of the time since.

    the incentive was supposed to be the greater variety of skills you could pull over for classes. as a BLM you dont get many that are useful so i guess it makes you think more about it.

    Yea I agree, I'd rather classes just disappear. Then later have advanced jobs. I just don't like having 2 gear sets for pretty much the same class/job.

    I was thinking that at first but remember the classes gets twice the slots of abilities as job making them some what more diversified if enough jobs already available to that group/party.

    Maybe with the right gear and abilities selected I can make my Marauder a DD(ish)? o.O

    The idea is that classes are more solo-friendly as opposed to jobs, which are group-friendly. But since all of the endgame content is for groups, and everything from 30 onward is too easy to even require base classes anyway, why bother having them?

    Once you get your soul crystal, there's no reason to ever take it off.

    On topic, from what I understand SE wants the jobs to be simply upgrades and nothing more. The choices come later when they implement multiple jobs per class.

    If they did what the OP is saying, Jobs would be nearly useless. Especially since as of now the only real plus is the stat bonus, which is what "sweeps them under the rug." (Obviously skills, but OP is saying give classes their own skills.) If they gave them their own skills the "upgrade" wouldn't ever be used.

    Classes only seem useless now if you have no idea what the class system is for and what it is intended to be used for.


    Which is why when someone who makes a statement like this:

    I can't help but facepalm. Just because they don't make sense, to you, in the current game... it does not then mean there is a rational basis to conclude they should be removed completely.

    This might change once PVP is added, they might not allow jobs in PVP and only classes and also open up a variety of cross class skills that can be pulled for PVP purposes. As for current content, I agree, I have no reason to use my class over my job, even in solo play.
