not all players are skilled enough to always be able to keep hate on all mobs perfectly nor always be able to perfectly manage MP while healing nor have awesome gear yet

however, all players do not need skill nor awesome gear to simply focus fire in order to always be able to help out the tanks and healers that may be less then perfectly skilled or less then perfectly geared

being adaptable when it requires no skill nor gear to do so is always the best option, imo, if you need other players help in order to reach your personal goals in an MMO game

This is not about having the best gear it is about a class being able to do its job. A tank's sole job is to keep hate on the enemy. The above statement applied to others aside summoner is: The tank may not be able to hold hate. BLM cast a spell once every 10 seconds. BRD don't use any skills just shoot, DRG do not do your constant combos, MNK just don't punch stuff.

Out of all the above the SMN do the least amount of damage. Their damage adds up over time, but the dots, help the second and third mob drop faster (along with the first), and that first one is getting fester as well. (Oh Shadow Flare is going to do damage on the first one as well and cast slow on any mob the tank may loose agro off of.)

... unless somebody on the team is sleeping adds. If the tank isn't throwing out enough AoE enmity, the adds will be going after the healer anyways.

what the previous poster said

work within your current groups abilities

if the tank needs one of the mobs killed asap because of gear, then focus fire one mob down quickly

if the tank can handle everything till the sun goes down, aoe to your hearts content

if the tank is having issues holding agro, focus fire down mobs in the same order the tank is focused on them

if the healer is having issues with MP, again, focus fire...

the more adaptable you are to your healers and tanks, the more runs you will be able to complete

And what do we do when the tank is so unskilled that casting Eye for an Eye as a first action after letting the tank grab hate for 10 seconds still make all but 1 mob turn on you as scholar?

Yes, that happens lol.
