Any word on if and when SE will do something about the hackers rampant in the world?

Why is there always at least one person in hacking threads flat out making excuses for hacking? In this case, they are both hacking AND botting, and even if they would be doing only one of those things it would still be a bannable offense, so what is your point exactly?

It's just poor phrasing. I guess overtime hacking has gotten a lot more of a loose usage, but it should mean breaking into a computer system. It's an IT industry related word. If I spawned in ARR with a bazooka I wouldn't be "hacking" I would be "cheating".

They (the bots) are probably just using a program that exploits certain designs in the game. To me, at least, and most definitions, hacking is the virtual equivalent to breaking into your house, not being able to breathe in space.

It IS hacking. Its a downloadable third party program that hacks the client to give false positioning information back to the server to teleport to nodes. no walking. Characters can NOT teleport to nodes using traditional bots. Bots are usually third party macro programs that record keystrokes or mouse movements. This is a HACK because it actually changes client and server data to meet a pre determined goal. in this case positioning of the character.


The character THEN uses BOTS to script his mining behaviour to target specific gathering attempts.

So in essence it is both...and in violation of the games terms.

Agreed. It is hacking. Hacking is not just breaking into someone's computer.

In 100% seriousness, the best response to this is to report it through the correct channels - in game and in the forums in the bugs section. Talking about it in the general discussion is just going to result in people throwing insults, or at best, arguing over the minutia of the difference between hacking and botting. The more people who report this - through the correct channels - the more likely it is that SE will take action.

almost decided to quit and get GTA5 last night because i can't stand how unfair this game is getting for people who refuse to cheat...

I don't think much about people cheating, but...

GTA5 is really good. The best GTA ever. With multiplayer coming out in 2 weeks and looking amazing my sub here will be lapsing almost certainly. I'm not bashing FF14 at all, GTA is just that good imo.

It seems so simple hire a team of 10-15 people, and just have them go server to server checking towns for gold spammers and prime farming locations. If they see anything record it, kick player, ban account and move on to the next one.

At $30 bucks a pop gold farmers will quickly become unprofitable and those players whos accounts are being hacked will quickly learn to increase security.

I dont get it either. I just began leveling my gatherer and i encounter dozens of bots/hackers/cheaters/etc through 6 zones of mining. and at each mining area, there were probably duplicates of 5 going all at once. Get one dev/gm/etc out there and they would've been shut down instantly. Guess they're too busy fixing the server issue that we no longer have.
