I agree completely with this.
Fame served a great purpose in XI in that it allowed players to get a general 'feel' of their progress in a given city. It also was really cool that as your fame increased, people trusted and respected you more and gave you more involved and more important quests to take on.
I also agree with others who noted that they should be one-time quests, not repeatable ones like in XI where you could just turn in ore in Bastok, the grass in Selbina or those musical instruments in Windurst. That really undermined the point of the system and seemed very implausible. You're going to "emerge as a hero" to an entire nation because you brought one guy a ton of grass for his sheep? Really?
Reputation should matter, and so should earning it.
Thanks so much for all this rain of infos today.. Bayohne unleashed .![]()
They need to add a Troll tracker, because people certainly love feeding them. :P
Anyways, I can't wait to see how fame works! What the rewards will be, etc. :3
I would be all for a guild-specific reputation system. It could allow guild quests that award guild marks, opening up more and more as you get more famous within the guild, and even open up tiered class-specific gear options purchasable with guild marks.
I've been hoping for this since the game was released. I hope they change NPC interaction too like they did in XI, where they seemed more pleased and knew more about you based on how much fame you had. Quests and items only obtainable by different levels of fame should be added too.
i do kind miss getting fame for quests
Fame, awesome. That's all we need, another thing to grind!
A question for the community. Since the Development Team stated they are indeed working on a Fame System for FFXIV ... what would you like to see as a benefit of having high fame? What would you not like to see?

Traditionally in real-life, fame got a person free dinners, access to VIP areas, audiences with royalty, an entourage, access to black market merchandise, and additional opportunities to demonstrate why they are famous in the first place.
