IE10 & Protected Mode cause 401 and 601 errors.

Some errors are caused by IE10 Protected Mode. When avoid IE10 and Protected Mode the problem is gone.
Must do this before seeing 601 error.

Set -> Internet Options -> Security to
Custom level -> Medium -> Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode"
F12
Browser Mode: IE9

Before using Mog Station might do the trick.

Don't forget to "Turn on Protected Mode" after completion.

"401 error dialogue" invites user to try again instead of this warning.
"Please also note that once an authorization has been rejected, that form of payment cannot be attempted again for a full twenty-four hours, and any further attempts before that time will automatically be rejected."
So everyone of us is lured into 601 error.

Zarno, thanks. Did this work for IE10? I got the 601 first try with this today, and I tried a few more times, so I'm guessing I'm locked out of my account for at least 24 hours, maybe more, so I'll try again tomorrow, but can disable this before I try, if that will (for sure) eliminate the 601. Thanks.

I really don't think this will work. I tried to register with both Fire Fox (Yes I made sure NoScript wasn't blocking anything. I also had it set to allow all scripts globally) and Chrome with the same result: 401/601.

EDIT: Just tried and same problem as before. Maybe my account is locked out? No real way of telling and I'm not going to wait 3+ hours for a rep to find out.

I agree with you, no way am I even going to bother to try customer service. If they don't address this, and fix it, they simply don't want my $$. I don't have to play this game.

Initially, I got only the 601 error the first few times I tried this. Then I finally got a 401 also, which means you now need to talk with your CC provider, as a flag was likely set off after numerous attempts. You might try again after 24 hours and after you've cleared or reset this with your bank. Good luck.

I talked to mine last night and they only got 2 records of my card being declined due to entering an incorrect security code, which I'll admit doing since I used the one on my old card from a force of habitt. But nothing else except those two attempts and I know I tried a lot more than two times.

It could be my account being locked up, but I can't tell. There is no information about my account's status, SE doesn't seem to give out emails or anything.

The system is a piece of crap, that's all that can be said about it.

it has nothing to do with the browser you're using. I haven't used IE in almost a decade. I'm still getting 401 errors.

The 401 error is your bank. The 601 is SE.

My bank has adamantly said they have not declined any of my transactions. My account isn't locked or limited for fraud prevention.

Square Enix however tell me nothing. A GM did post that it was related to banks declining but that apparently isn't the case :/

I'm actually putting in no more effort. 6 hours of "trying" to contact your support to only get dropped at the end when no-one answers. Hours of reading up what others are saying. Time spent dealing with the bank, speaking to PayPal all just to play this bloody game with some friends. At my hourly rate, I would say Square owe me an entire year's free sub.

What do we do Square?
