Long story short -- got home from work, pressed the button and the number didn't pop, seems like the battery is dead. I would like to ask the forum if anyone encountered similar situation before I smash it with a hammer and seriously hurting myself.

You have to call them to fix it because they won't do it over the internet. You could try spamming it and see if a number comes up and remove it from the account yourself and then use the free application one that is on the site.
this kind of token usually have very very long battery life. I had several tokens for my ebanking, been 3 years and they still spunky. Yours must be broken for some reason, the only way is to contact the support
I think they should add a one time password for the physical tokens themselves too and not just for the smartphone app.
Allegedly, there's a low battery indicator on the lcd screen. Did you happen to notice anything besides digits on your token display before it died?
