Japanese Keyboard Question

Has anyone figured out how to change your keyboard to Japanese on PS3? During phase3 and phase4 of the beta all one had to do was click the ~ key once.
If they did end up removing it does anybody know the reason? It seems completely pointless to remove such a neat feature.

yeah I used to be able to write in Japanese (my keyboard is Japanese) but since the official launch I cannot so I write everything in romaji, which is a bit frustrating

I have an English keyboard, but I'd also like to know if it's possible for me to switch between them. In windows it's pretty easy to switch between the languages using the windows shortcut keys. Some kind of key combination in game would be really helpful. I'm on PC though and tried those ~ combinations and none worked for me.

NVM, this is about PS3..... I have no clue how to switch keyboard languages there.

My number 1 guess of why it doesn't work anymore is because when they went from phase 3 (beta build) to phase 4 (launch build) they failed or refused to include much of what they accomplished in phase 3. Can explain some other errors or erroneous changes with the game, like gathering delay.

Phase 4/launch build was a different client than phase3/beta client after all.
