Selling raid spots has been around for about a decade or so now, nothing new to see here, move along.

Oh, and FYI, finding ways to make gil that is mutually beneficial to both parties involved (group who has cleared content makes $$$, people who may never get to clear said content otherwise get content cleared, as well as associated rewards).. Stuff like that is the what makes an MMO an MMO.

Yeah, pretty much this. It's been around forever in MMO's.

And as others have pointed out, this isn't the only reason people buy gold. There will always be another reason for them to buy gold. Lazy people are lazy. If you work at it, it's not hard to make gil in an MMO, but SOME people want a short cut, thus you get your gil buyers. Even if you did away with these runs, they would find another reason to buy gil-be it gear, housing, etc.

So to sum up this thread... OP was oblivious to what has been pretty much a part of probably every MMO since about forever, while Furious continues to lie across multiple threads about a non-existent ban, did I miss anything?

Actually I have played pretty much every MMO thats came out and if you read my post it is an OPINION to help get rid of one more reason to buy gold. Anyway thanks for the replys I am not a big fan of item level but I suppose it may help :/

where does it stop though? Once you start getting rid of reasons to buy gil... what's next? get rid of in-game currency altogether

As long as there is in game currency, there will be people who try to make real world money off of it.
You CANNOT use their irresponsibility to punish people who only deal in gil and not real money

Short of selling Gil for RL currency, I don't really care what other people do with their Gil. If they have an abundance and want to pay a group of players for X service, they are free to do so.

Being a Mercenary shouldn't be a bannable offense.
Being a mercenary is just like offering any other type of service to characters in Eorzea and makes sense. Trading services done in FFXIV for Gil, an FFXIV currency, is no different than paying gil to have someone meld gear for you, or buying a person's crafted item from the market. No its not an official 'job' and may be looked down upon by a few, but being a merc is a legit way of making gil, unlike trading real money for digital currency which could easily lead to password theft and other serious issues.

I dont think so, because its not RMT, and they are not forcing you to go the RMT route. If you do go and buy gil than that's on you, not the people selling em. Know if they came to your house and threatened to kill you and your wife or husband if you didn't go and buy gil to buy there services, than yeah I could see something wrong with it.

Aren't they supposed to be implementing something (read this on Reddit) where you can't do certain fights if your gear isn't good enough? That should nix this problem in the bud right quick.

Lol have you seen the DF groups for HM Titan?

Most of them are a joke. Under geared, don't know what their doing, start blaming others and arguing, yada yada yada...............
I've done too many HM Titans using the DF, I know how it goes, and have yet to get a win. The quality Titan groups are extremely rare and that puts demand for them at an all time high.

If an FC or LS has the skills and is offering a run for gil, I give props to them. At least it's not 40mil for a White Raven HM run, its relatively affordable.

To that end, I'm tired of HM Titan with crappy DF groups. I honestly wish I hadn't missed the transfer, cause now I'm stuck for the moment.

Anyone offering a HM Titan run on Gungnir, hit me up.

You can start undercutting them by running titan for free. Merc will ban themselves
