Thats why there needs to be a global name, such as someone mentioned in a previous post.

If you are paranoid about people robbing the bank then A. Run the guild better. B. Think twice about who/how you invite...
If your whoring for members and not giving a mind as to who you invite you deserve it.
For 2 reason bringing that up as an argument against is moot. 1. The chance someone does it with mature organized people is very slim. Its not like the potions grow on trees and therefore creates a desire to run around abusing it.
And even then most importantly as in ANY mmo i'm pretty sure there will be a name change function down the road anyway... Derp.
I am in same boat, can't use potion due to gender conflict and name.
I think its a great idea OP. I think they should fix the potion (no gender change or add name change.) Its commonsense really; either would fix the issue.
Love the name card idea tho, fits traditionally very well.
Well, I see no harm in having services that allows you to change w/e you want for a price to pay in cash honestly, reasonable price makes it a good way for SE to make money to support the game even more, people who actually wanna support the game gets another way to do so, and with it being in cash stops the abuse so as mentioned by someone people can't get away with things they do regardless of whose at fault for it, its not a game breaking feature as to say pay-2-win, so why not? anything that does not break the game, I think is fine to add as a cash item.
As a 1.0 player, my friend list was carried over and people changed their names, so there were people I did not recognize the name of on my friends list. This means friendlists and blacklists are not effected by changing peoples names and is most likely related to a character I.D.
I do not think everyone should get a namingway card, however having one for sale should not be a problem.
or at least let us change the first name
I'd be happy if they gave us a one-time $30 name change. It would be cheaper and safer that using server transfers. I haven't tried such a thing yet because I'm worried about my server being closed to transfers when I attempt the return trip.
EDIT: SE has already stated in the FAQ that name changes are automatically updated globally. FC, friend, and blacklists will simply show the new name where the old one was. What we really need is a way to add labels to those on our friend and black lists. Such a thing would be helpful to everyone, regardless of the state of name change options.

I really like this idea.
I disagree on being able to change a name. Its like people want to know who you are, and it probably will mess up everyone's friend list / blacklist
on another note, changing surname only is a different story.
Well, here's an example: I have two Miqo'te brothers in my linkshell, and at least one of them has taken a traditional Miqo'te name. They both used the Fantasia potions and turned into Elezen, but they can't change their names, which means the one with the traditional name has a name which no longer fits or makes sense for the new character race/tribe.
Maybe make the name change based on what's the most obvious for the old model's given race/tribe. In this case, since the character's first name is what makes them stand out, allow them to change that part but keep the last name. Doing it this way makes it unnecessarily complicated on a system level, though, as opposed to letting them change the entire first and last name.
As noted in previous responses, it updates on lists already if a name changes. And honestly, if it's a friend of yours changing the name, odds are they'll tell you. If it's someone you blacklisted, you shouldn't be concerned, either because the new name still shows up on the blacklist. If it's there, you're probably not going to be dealing with said person anyway, so I'm not sure how their changing names is a problem for you.
