    Thanks to Orma and GreyhoundHeaven for making efforts to help others out!

    Unfortunately, everything the two of you have suggested have already been tried on my end. I've confirmed with PlaySpan on the phone that my errors were due to the country of my billing address not matching up with that of my IP address (I'm in Korea; billing address is in the States). The Ultimate Game Card is available for online purchase but the vendors listed on their website also decline my transactions due to having the same policy (billing/IP country don't match). I would like to note that I tried using VPNs to no success. With no other options, I had my brother in the U.S. purchase an Ultimate Game Card and send me the PIN; but when I tried to use it to purchase Crysta at the MogStation, I got an arbitrary error again. Finally, I called PlaySpan and had the operator manually credit me with Crysta by giving him the PIN and my SE account info.

    I know different players had different solutions when it came down to resolving this issue but for expatriots like me with a billing address back in the States, the only viable option seems to be having someone back in the States purchase an Ultimate Game Card for you, then calling PlaySpan to manually convert it into Crysta for you. This is such a pain in the ass. I'm glad I'll soon be back in the game I love, but I so badly resent SE/PlaySpan for having to make me go through all this just to pay for the game. I shouldn't feel bad that I'm supporting you, SquareEnix. Please make a change!

    Workaround for prepaid credit, worked for me

    Prepaid vanilla mastercard. Be sure to register your prepaid card at the website listed behind card;

    1: In SE account man. select add crysta, 2 000, then choose UltimatePay. (the other payment methods never worked for my prepaids)
    2: For my prepaid mastercard, i selected mastercard in UltimatePay.
    3: Add card info, dont forget security number behind.
    4: For name, type Vanilla, but real address and postal code.
    5: Pay, (ultimatepay has a 10% markup in my area, so 20$ is 22$)
    6: Use crysta to pay in mogstation. (go to Proceed to Payment, red tab, recurring sub setup.)
    7: phew! hope it works for yall.

    I'm starting to get this error 401 too, my past payment was my first and I didn't get this error but now I can't cause this error. I wait the 24 hours and the error 401 still appearing. The unfair thing is that I stiil lossing $1.00 everytime I tryinging to pay and get the errors so, obviouly isn't the bank fault. If Square Enix waste their time in unless Hallowin & Christmas decorations in the game, then why they didn't get time for something so useful like fixing this errors problems.

    Also, I can't buy Crysta since Ultimate Pay always said that my PIN number isn't correct, so, I only hope that Square Enix fix this errors problems. They really will keep losing a lot of costumers if they keep ignoring this problem.

    SE's billing system is so broken that it accept me purchasing a time card, register my credit card for automated renewal but give me the error 401 if I try to buy a server transfer. My wife, using the same CC, managed to buy all those things for her and I can't buy the server transfer. My bank says there are no problem at all with my card and SE have the guts to claim it's not on their end. They might think we're all idiots.

    Add one more to the pile of people receiving this error. After reading through this forum, it seems that Square-Enix's support staff is unable to actually help any of us. This is probably due to the fact that (as others have stated) Square-Enix doesn't actually control the credit validation system themselves. They're using a service called UltimatePay (https://site.ultimatepay.com/) which is part of the PlaySpan company (http://www.playspan.com/). What I find interesting (and haven't seen anyone else make the connection to) is that whenever any of us with this 401 error contact support, they inform us to try the Ultimate Game Card (http://www.ultimategamecard.com/) which is owned by...PlaySpan.

    So, wait. Let's get this straight. My card gets denied by UltimatePay which is owned by PlaySpan, then I'm referred to the same company's other product, Ultimate Game Card? Sounds a little suspicious to me.

    After trying to find contact info for UltimatePay or PlaySpan the only thing that came up with was their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PlaySpanMarketplace

    For the moment, it seems that Square-Enix is content to just ignore this issue.
