Pretty much the same scenario as me. I think it has to do with not being able to use the same card on multiple accounts, which is pretty dumb in my opinion. I understand it might be there to prevent fraud but it is harming legitimate customers in the process as well..Neither of the suggestions for Error 601 and 401 appear to be true in my case at least. My husband paid for his subscription with no problems. I try to pay for my subscription twenty minutes later on the same network and computer with the same credit card. I get both errors after trying two different payment methods. Therefore, I HAVE to assume that it is not on my end. The only difference between his account and my account is that I have mine linked to a CE v1.0 and he just bought a standard game in August.
