I can confirm that 'physical' Ultimate Game Cards work for adding Crysta...they will decline initially but as mentioned in another thread you have to call PlaySpan (650) 432-3200 to add the transaction to SE manually.
This workaround is F'ing ridiculous and I was seriously on the verge of just quitting over it, but whatever.
I tried 3x Credit Cards, 2x Debit Cards, 2x PayPal sources, CC through Ultima +Crysta and buying UGC from Walmart (which also declines)...I finally just drove to Gamespot and nabbed some cards and went through the PlaySpan call process.
Good luck all, this is horrible.
..also, the reason for the Ultimate Game cards declining is because of a 48h Ultimate pay lockout they put on the system after a certain number of failures. Whether this is tied to the SE card add 601 lockout, I doubt it..but you never know.

---------------------------------------------------An error has occurred..
Please confirm the status of any relevant options and then try again.
As repeated registration failure can lead to restrictions being placed on your account, we strongly recommend that you contact the Square Enix Support Center for guidance before attempting to register a Credit/Debit card again.
If you are registering a payment method with a payment service provider, please contact them directly.
(Error code: 601)------------------------------------------------------------
Is there a way to find out if I have any kind of restriction on my account?
or about a timer?
how the hell do I know if I have to wait 24h or 48h or 30 days? how do I know if my account got locked by inputting different credit cards?
SE should let the Customer know what's going on with their accounts by adding a timer or adding more information.
because right now I don't know what to do and how much time do I have to wait.
lets give SE a break if we can find the solution ourselves? WE HAVE GIVEN THEM NOTHING BUT BREAKS! I hope they crash and burn.Hopefully my thread will help solve your issues. Please give those methods a try and see if they work.

Its clear they are either really dumb or do not care about their customers or really believe we or are our banks are all at fault....in either case they will burn and crash a terrible spiral of death especially when 2.0 players have to pay.
Bublex,Hello,
We are aware a small number of customers are experiencing issues when trying to set up their subscription for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Customers affected by these issues are receiving either a 401 or a 601 error code message when attempting to enter their payment information.
For Customers Receiving Error 401
If you are receiving an error 401 message when attempting to enter a new payment method or updating an old one, there is an issue with your financial institution declining the authorization attempt. Unfortunately, Square Enix is not provided with any information as to why the authorization was declined. Please be sure that all billing information is entered correctly on the Square Enix Account. Please be aware that once authorization has been declined, that form of payment method cannot be used for a full twenty-four hours.
If you are unable to resolve the issue with your financial institution, then contact our Support Center for further assistance here. When contacting the Support Center, please note that you will need to verify your account information.
For Customers Receiving Error 601
If you are receiving an error 601 message when attempting to enter a new payment method or updating an old one, the error maybe caused if you are on a private network or on a company network. If possible, we recommend that you try using an outside network to register your payment method to your Square Enix Account. As repeated registration failure can lead to restrictions being placed on your account, we strongly recommend that you contact the Square Enix Support Center for guidance before attempting to register a Credit/Debit card again.

You completely glossed over the real issue. I did not have any 601 or 401 problems registering my card. You failed to process my subscription anyways. I only received the 601 after trying to register it again several times to try and overcome the problem. This has nothing to do my authorization against my bank. I could see that SE had a $1.00 pre-auth already on my account. In fact, now I have 2.
This is where you guys failed to do something properly on your side. Please stop trying to deflect the real problem you had by telling people they are only getting these errors because of something they did wrong. This is being ignorant of the truth and is a slight to those that know better.
Now, make a thread that states why you guys couldn't properly process payments over the past couple of days for those that had properly registered cards. This is likely a good majority of the reason why most people are now in the 601/401 state. Needing to try different cards or the same card over again does this.
Incidentally, I had ZERO problems buying crysta from Ultimate Pay. I was even able to call these guys without the complete RIDICULOUS wait that your customer support center has. You realize it took me waiting 1.5 hours after a *66 to get a call back once your lines stopped ringing busy. Don't tell people to call support until you guys can reasonable handle a response in less then 4 hours on hold...yes I let me phone stay in your queue for 4 hours before I said enough of this joke.
Well I waited 2.5 days to try to and use my card again and pay for my subscription and this time I received the 401 instead of the usual 601. I broke down and purchased 1499 crysta using ultimate pay for a 30 day subscription. It was actually a lot less painless than I thought it would be. I didn't have to call or anything, the crysta was there right after I payed. I realize not everyone can use crysta but for those who can I suggest using your card with ultimate pay. I originally wanted to pay for the 6 month subscription but I lost too much faith in SE. Good luck to everyone still trying to pay and get your shit together SE or I wont be back next month.
On a side note, I was finally able to log in only to find out that there is maintenance and I wont have time to play until tomorrow. pff...figures.
Hello,
I am claiming, like many others who replied to this thread, that the information you provide is incorrect. I am requesting, via support center and with this post, that the issue should be solved immediately.
I have tried to pay with a credit card and credit card only. I got error 601 and 401 respectively and still getting the same errors if I try to pay now. I have tried to pay with 5 different cards in total, one of which is proven to be able to pay for another FFXIV account. These trials were done (around 30 times the first night with an initial card at the same location via 3 different browsers (GChrome, IExplore, Mozilla) in 4 different locations, one of which is proven to pay for another FFXIV account. Two of these cards (including the one which was able to pay for another account) attempted payments giving 30 and 26 hours breaks between trials, ensuring that the 24 hour "lock time" would be surpassed. Each card after the initial one was tried only twice.
Each card belongs to a different bank, they are all issued in Turkey, where I am living right now. Each and every bank has been contacted to, all are able to pay and have necessary funds and guaranteed by the banks to be able to pay for internet purchasing (they have not declined any transaction in the last week). Two of them are proven to be able to buy things via web in the last week.
It should be also noted, that a person who got 601 error the first time he tried was able to pay at his second try exactly at the same time that I was trying to pay.
Errors suggest that I should have contacted the support center. I have immediately opened a ticket regarding the situation, which got answered 2 days later with the questions you provided in the article posted today. Since then, I have explained this process above in 4 total tickets via the support center. I have not received any answers.
I am suspecting (as no clear or correct answer has been given I cannot claim that I know) that my initial tries blocked the credit card payment ability of the account, which is the reason I am no longer able to pay with a credit card. I have a ticket regarding this issue that is not answered, in which I request that the "block" should be lifted. Again, you claim that I should be contacting the support center, and have done that, and have not received any answers.
You can check tickets 2844922, 2849217, 2857639 for proof. It is not only extremely frustrating for a player/customer standpoint, but having done a horrible job at the initial release of a game, then having login issues right after you release the "remake" of the game, then having this issue is simply being disrespectful to your customers. Please solve this issue immediately.
After hearing the suggestions from other users about buying Crysta through Ultimate Pay with an Ultimate Gamer Card I decided to give it a try. I agree that this is not a fix for anything. It's ridiculous that I couldn't use my card to buy a subscription through SquareEnix but I was able to use that same card to purchase an Ultimate Gamer Card through WalMart to then purchase Crysta with through SquareEnix. lol
I went to Walmart.com and purchased the Electronic Delivery $20 Ultimate Gamer Card. I received the PIN number for the card about 30 minutes after I made the purchase.
I went to the Mogstation and purchased 2000 Crysta using the Ultimate Gamer Card and everything went through smoothly.
However, as other users have mentioned I will now have existing Crysta that I may not be able to use unless I purchase another card next month. Honestly, If there isn't a fix by then, I may have to do that anyway.
