    I play another browser based game called Tribal Wars which uses the same third party payment processing company (global Collect) as SE uses. FIREFOX browser is not compatible with that company and I have to switch to chrome or opera to pay for the game credits in Tribal Wars. I had to do this to sub for FF also and it went through right away.

    Yes, this work around has been mentioned many times, but has not been a fix all for everyone. There are players, including me, that tried this method but it still did not work. SE just need to fix their system and stop blaming the players and own up to their problem. Either that or admit to the fact that maybe they designed their payment system to not work for certain people? Not saying that this is true but who knows eh?

    Why won't you take my money?

    I called my bank to verify that a $1 purchase had been charged by SE when I registered my payment method. Actual purchases (subscription/crysta) never go through. It's not the card or bank cause the registration clearly went through. I also tried PayPal and it actually went through on their part but said the payment was cancelled by the seller.

    This can only mean that the problem lies with the SE account and how they process payments. This is outrageous. How can a company make it so difficult for me to give them money? I love this game and the community that I got to know during the initial 30-day trial, but if this doesn't get resolved soon I don't know if I'm going to keep trying.

    Edit: I see that this thread actually started almost 3 months prior to me posting this. I can't believe this is still happening 3 months after they became aware of this issue...

    I am not posting this to antagonize Agent Daniel W nor Square Enix. I am posting this in hopes that someone at SE can make the necessary changes so that customer support can actually help people resolve this issue.

    As it is, the support team know even less on the Error 401 issue than the customers contacting them, and the only solution they can offer to us is that we "try other methods" instead of being able to resolve the issue itself.

    I have not yet tried to purchase and redeem a digital Ultimate Game Card voucher as of this writing, nor am I sure that I will. If I have to make separate and regular $10/$20 purchases to keep a subscription going when I was led to believe that I would have more reasonable methods of payment, I'm not sure it's worth keeping that subscription.

    I love the Final Fantasy franchise and it honestly makes me sad to discontinue supporting it. Please, Square Enix, wake up.

    You: I am in Korea and my billing address is back in the United States.


    You: There are no problems using the debit card internationally from the bank's end.

    You: When I registered the payment method with SE I had a $1 transaction show up on my bank so the card and the information I provided are valid.


    You: As is my PayPal. They confirmed that the transaction was declined by the seller (Square Enix)

    You: So you're saying with certainty that this issue that the FAQ has outlined is prevalent only in the EU region?


    Agent Daniel W: I am stating that I cant assist you further and that you may need to use another form of payment.

    Yep sounds abaut rigth and whats even worse for me none game stors sell game cards for final fantasy and most online shops dont take purchases from my country wich is just great

    I just want to put some things out there for new people who haven't read through all the posts.

    --IF YOU ARE USING NOSCRIPT on Firefox or another browser, DISABLE IT then try again.

    --IF YOU ARE ABLE to purchase Crysta (meaning you don't get an error before you are able to choose an option), you have a couple choices, either buy it with Paypal with your credit card, Ultimate Pay using your credit card, or buying an Ultimate Pay Card either online or from local stores.
    If you have errors using Ultimate Pay, give them a call at (650) 432-3200, and they'll be able to push Crysta to your account. ** Also, try using Hola Unblocker this time for your browser, then use Papal/Credit Card for crysta again

    --IF YOU ARE UNABLE to get Crysta and your only option is to use a credit card then go to the Square Enix Account Management Page and try to update all your information, and update your credit card information there as well. Wait 24 hours and try again in Mogstation.

    --IF YOU ARE IN EU and no other options have worked. There is a prepaid time card option for you for 60 days.

    --OTHER SOLUTIONS
    -Visa Electrons use Visa option, worked for some
    -OUTSIDE of USA/CANADA but with NA billing address? Try using Hola Unblocker for Google Chrome

    I have the solved the problem. Make sure your account address details much your credit bank address details. The details you have with your bank must match with the square enix account address or the message error will occur. Thank you for applause. Glory to me for being the supreme awesomness.

    Probably the most annoying thing about this is the fact that it threatens to lock you out for 24 hours, guess I'm just gonna play it safe and get a pre-paid time card when I can really disappointing though

    You should probably give a screenie of the page that it's on, remember to censor your personal info! That's great news though!
